Operating as a leading privately owned collection of diverse companies, our clients operate throughout Scotland and the rest of the UK. The multi-disciplined group has grown organically over the past 50 years and specialises in market sectors including automotive manufacturing, construction, technical consultancy, composite manufacturing, property investment, land development, mechanical services, heating, plumbing and electrical services, renewable technologies, software development and internet of things. Our client is currently in the process of moving to their new state of-the-art office building in Perth, accredited with the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) Gold standard.
Responsibilities
- Carry out risk assessments and consider how risks could be reduced
- Outline safe operational procedures which identify and consider all relevant hazards
- Carry out regular site inspections to check policies and procedures are being properly implemented
- Ensure working practices are safe and comply with legislation
- Prepare health and safety strategies and develop internal policy
- Lead in-house training with managers and employees about health and safety issues and risks
- Keep records of inspection findings and produce reports that suggest improvements
- Record incidents and accidents and produce statistics for managers
- Keep up to date with new legislation and maintain a working knowledge of all Health and Safety Executive (HSE) legislation and any developments that affect the employer's industry
- Attend Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) seminars and read professional journals
- Produce management reports, newsletters and bulletins
- Ensure equipment is installed safely
- Manage and organise the safe disposal of hazardous substances, e.g. asbestos
- Advise on a range of specialist areas, e.g. fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery and occupational diseases.
Requirements
- Devise and establish a company's quality procedures, standards and specifications
- Review customer requirements and make sure they are met
- Work with purchasing staff to establish quality requirements from external suppliers
- Set standards for quality
- Make sure that we develop and maintain our ISO and other various certifications
- Look at ways to reduce waste and increase efficiency
- Define quality procedures in conjunction with operating staff
- Set up and maintain controls and documentation procedures
- Monitor performance by gathering relevant data and produce statistical reports
- Review existing policies and make suggestions for changes and improvements and how to implement them
- Measure performance and identify any areas of weakness, recommending and implementing improvements
- Liaise with other managers and staff and provide training, tools and techniques to enable others to achieve quality standards
- Assess the effectiveness of changes made
- Make sure the company is working as effectively as possible to stay ahead of competitors
- Collaborating with external vendors and suppliers to ensure that they meet quality standards
- Ensuring that all processes meet safety, legal and other national or international standards
