Job description
ActionAid is an international charity that works with women and girls living in poverty. Our dedicated local staff are ending violence against women and girls and helping change lives, for good. We won’t stop until women and girls are out of danger, out of poverty and on track to create the future they want.
ActionAid UK is seeking an HR Advisor to support the people management functions that underpin our business priorities, values and culture. You will contribute to and support HR strategic and operational objectives and provide the full range of HR generalist advice and guidance to managers and employees.
As the first point of contact regarding HR policy and practice, you will ensure people are aware of our HR policies and can use them in a consistent way that aligns with our values and legal responsibilities. This role will also include identifying, creating and implementing all HR policies and procedures, ensuring that they always reflect employment law and best practice, are aligned to our values, and are financially sustainable. You will develop and coach managers so that they confidently and consistently encourage engagement in their teams, performance development, and address underperformance as well as support them with routine Employee Relations cases including capability, disciplinary and grievance issues, and absence management.
The successful candidate will hold or be working towards a Level 5 HR qualification or be qualified by substantial generalist HR experience. You will have proven experience of casework including performance management, absence management, disciplinaries and grievances in line with employment law and best practice and have the ability to work collaboratively with all departments across the organisation, building strong working relationships.
You will have extensive experience of policy development and implementation aligned to organisational values with the ability to coach and empower managers from a variety of disciplines. You will also have attention to detail with the ability to analyse data to pinpoint key areas of focus for stakeholders.
A strong relationship builder, you will have emotional intelligence and respect for confidentiality. You will also have a collaborative style, respecting the expertise of colleagues, bringing them in to discussions in a timely and appropriate manner.
A commitment to feminist principles, feminist leadership, and working for an organisation focused on the rights of women and girls is also a key requirement. Previous experience of working in a Unionised environment is desirable.
ActionAid is committed to driving improvement through digital channels, tools and ways of working. We will ensure that we provide the technology and the training to enable all staff to perform their roles to the best of their abilities. In return, we ask that all staff are committed to continually improving their digital skills and knowledge within the working environment. Our recruitment processes will evaluate the digital skills of all applicants.
ActionAid is committed to supporting flexible working. If you would like to discuss flexible working options, including the possibility of a job share for this role, there will be space to do so during the interview process. Please note you will need the right to work in the UK in order to apply for this role.
