HOUSEKEEPING MANAGER
This position is responsible for being the main point of contact between the Housekeeping Department and its associates, as well as all other departments in the hotel. This position will be responsible for coordinating the day-to-day activities for the Housekeeping Department and working closely with the Room Attendants, House Persons and Leadership Teams of all Hotel Departments.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage the daily operations of the Housekeeping Department, its associates and leaders.
- Lead and effectively communicate to the Housekeeping team requirements of daily business, tour, and groups in the Hotel including VIP guests and special requests.
- Ensure that all Housekeeping Team Members are aware of new and current policies and procedures.
- Work closely with all other Hotel Teams to ensure that the Hotel is always clean and condition of public and heart of house areas are pristine.
- Actively be in all Hotel areas both front and heart of house, conducting inspections, coaching associates and participating in maintaining cleanliness and conditions of all areas.
- Manage administrative duties, including schedule, payroll, procurement and operating expenses.
- Manage the Housekeeping team schedule and daily labour allotment.
- Participate in the creation of the annual budget for the Housekeeping Department.
- Consistently take ownership and coach the Housekeeping Team in the handling of guest issues; recover loyalty internally and externally with immediate follow up and effective problem resolution.
- Recruit, select and train new team members.
- Coach associates daily through employee reviews, one-on-one sessions, and departmental meetings.
- Balance team member’s mental and physical health to maintain retention and minimize STD claims.
- Respond quickly to guest requests and challenges in a friendly manner and take appropriate action to follow-up to ensure guest expectations are exceeded.
- Educate associates on safe work practices, including proper storage of chemicals and materials needed for daily room cleaning.
- Participate as a team player with all departments.
- Provide constructive feedback to all departments.
- Be a role model and ambassador, always representing the Wall Centre and Marriott Brand, upholding our core values to the teams with the utmost professionalism.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 3-5 years proven Manager Experience, preferably in a first class Hotel is required for this position.
- Post-secondary education specializing in Hospitality Management an asset or equivalent experience.
- Ability to implement and maintain Wall Centre and Marriott standards, policies and procedures.
- Excellent computer skills including PMS systems – Galaxy/LightSpeed, Microsoft Office programs and HOTSoS/Rex Housekeeping Management system is a an asset.
- Dynamic, enthusiastic, assertive career minded individual.
- Strong people management skills, especially forming and maintaining a quality team that is motivated and mutually supportive of each other.
- Flexible schedule, able to work early mornings and late evenings when required.
- Proven multitasking abilities and ability to work in a fast-paced environment under pressure.
- Must be able to speak, read, write and understand English, a second language is an asset.
- Must have strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to supervise, train and motivate associates.
- Walking and standing are occasionally required; you must be able to exert a well-paced mobility to get to other departments in the hotel on a timely basis.
- Must be able to push/pull up to 100 lbs. and lift/carry up to 30 lbs. occasionally.
