York Cocoa House is an independent chocolate maker based in the heart of York, celebrating York’s chocolate making heritage and working with unique cocoa origins from around the world to craft award-winning and innovative, fine chocolate.
The business primarily operates from our manufacturing, learning and visitor hub – York Cocoa Works, with a growing online, wholesale and offsite event, training and innovation services.
We are proud to be one of a small number of British chocolate makers crafting sustainable chocolate in the UK, as such we are delighted to welcome chocolate enthusiasts and professionals to join us from around the world to learn and engage with the chocolate making process.
York Cocoa Works is a busy visitor facility with activities running at weekends and peak holiday periods. A flexible approach is required to meet demands in holiday seasons and to respond constructively to demand fluctuations.
Role Overview
York Cocoa Works is a busy visitor facility with activities running at weekends and peak holiday periods. A flexible approach is required to meet demands in holiday seasons and to respond constructively to demand fluctuations.
As a member of our front of house team you will work alongside our team of manufacturing, education and hospitality professionals to lead and deliver an outstanding visitor experience.
Our opening hours are: 9am – 5:30pm, with an expectation to work weekends, bank holidays and occasional evenings. We are closed Christmas Day and New Year’s Day
Your responsibilities will include;
· Ensuring the smooth daily running of the front of house operation, smooth delivery of the cafe and retail experience. This will include co-ordination of the visitor experience schedule; the Manufactory Tasting Journey and the Chocolate Bar Making Workshops.
· Managing and working to retail, hospitality and visitor experience targets to position the facility as a stand-out visitor and learning destination.
· Creating an outstanding visitor experience to engage with chocolate enthusiasts and encourage loyal repeat custom.
· Delivering excellent product knowledge and customer service.
Person Specification:
We are looking for enthusiastic and friendly individuals to join our team for summer, preferably until 1st October 2023 to include working over the York Food and Drink Festival.
Required Skills and Attributes:
Ideally you will have had some barista training but full training will be given, on how to create our speciality hot chocolate menu. We will also provide full training on all of our menu items so you are able to advise our customers for their own preferences or dietary requirements.
Experience:
You will have had some experience of working in a similar environment; meeting and greeting, taking orders, service delivery, cash handling, managing the tables and the queue. You will have an understanding of Food Safety and the importance of the completion of paperwork as well as the overall cleanliness and maintenance of the general area.
