Hillside Animal Sanctuary are currently recruiting for a Horse Handler
(Frettenham Site).
- WORKING HOURS:
- Summer - 45 per week, Winter - 40 per week
- Alternate weekends off.
- Bank Holiday working as per rota
DUTIES
- To assist in the humane rehabilitation and handling of sick, injured and retired equines. Many of these animals have special requirements due to old age, poor health or mistreatment in the past.
- Implementation of a full rehabilitation program for equines at Hillside Animal Sanctuary
- With the agreement of the Veterinary Manager, ensuring a weekly report on progress is given and full communication channels are open and adhered to on a daily basis.
Duties to include (but not limited to):
- Horse handling
- Feral handling
- Transportation of horses
- Treat and manage all equines in a humane/safe manner, promoting the ethos of Hillside
- Recognise signs of both good and poor health
- Assist the farriers
- Communicate fully and daily with the Vet Manager on all matters, particularly in regard to reporting problems
Qualities required:
- Experience and competency in horse handling
- Experience and competency in horse transportation
- A genuine interest in animal welfare
- Excellent time-keeping and attendance to work
- Practical hands-on and hard-working approach to work
- Ability to work alone and within a team
- Good communication skills including communicating with different members of the staff and outside professionals
Essential:
- Two years experience in Horse Handling
- Able to work outside in all weathers
- Valid manual driving licence
- B&E and Lorry Licence
