At Tarmac, ‘who you are’ matters. We want to get to know you. If you share our values and are proud of a job well done, collaborative in working well with others and ambitious to make things better, then have a read of what we have on offer.

Our Higher Apprenticeship Programmes offer the perfect blend of personal and professional development, with opportunities for a Technical Apprentice to join our Cement, Lime and Packed Products Team at our Tunstead site, close to Buxton in Derbyshire.

Working as a higher apprentice in our Technical teams will give you exposure to working in a supervisory role within the function. This is a great opportunity for someone who is looking to start out a career in operational management and learn the ropes from the ground up…

Here at Tarmac, we are working hard to create a dynamic and inclusive environment and it’s important that our people come from a variety of different backgrounds.

A typical day as a Higher Apprentice in Technical will be very varied but typically you could be involved in:

  • You’ll be involved in all things technical from product sampling and testing, record keeping and tracking data, and investigating customer complaints with management .

Life on site will involve working both inside and outside. It won’t always be glamorous! However, your safety and health is our number one priority and full protective clothing and equipment is provided. Your colleagues are there to help and look out for each other, and safety is everyone’s responsibility.

Whilst you’re learning on the job, you’ll attend our Core Skills Development Programme designed to expand your business knowledge, strengthen core skills and offer networking opportunities with other graduates, higher apprentices and key stakeholders across the Tarmac business in order to successfully transition into your destination role.

Alongside this programme, we will support your academic progression through the opportunity to complete the Derby University Foundation Degree course, giving you a good grounding to start an exciting career in our industry and earn while you learn!
