2021 - @ Bedford Depot (South Beds)
Welch's Transport Driver Apprenticeship Scheme:
The apprenticeship will include both on the job and off-site training, mentored throughout its three-year duration and will lead to a nationally recognised qualification. During the apprenticeship, you will not be on reduced apprenticeship pay but will be paid a normal wage, based on market rates.
It will include a period in the warehouse, leading to a fork-lift licence, exposure to the traffic office, commercial awareness and customer care training; all with a focus on health and safety. From here, it will progress to the achievement of a category C (old Class 2) HGV licence with the ultimate objective of gaining the C + E licence, for articulated 44 tonne vehicles.
If you are physically fit, motivated to learn and take on responsibility, customer-focused and hard-working,
Apprentices are paid the same as any other employee at that level within the business, the rates are as follows:
Yardman = £10.00 (£19,500, last year's average salary £22,700)
Class C = £10.48 (£26,494, last year's average salary £28,000)
Class C+E = £10.75 (£27,950 last year's average salary y £31,000)
Average Salary is taken by looking at the previous year's average overtime, nights out where applicable. We also pay additional supplements for qualifications such as Forklift Licence.
