Murphy Utilities Ltd provide utility infrastructure services across the Yorkshire region working in partnership with a small number of companies whilst also undertaking private works on a smaller scale. Established in 2011, the company has seen rapid growth in the past two years, expanding current contracts through consistent service delivery, which has led to expansion into new geographic areas. We are now recruiting for a Tipper Driver join our team.
Role: HGV Tipper Driver
Reports to: Contract Supervisor
Rate of Pay: Negotiable dependent on experience.
Hours of work: Monday-Friday, 7:00am-5:00pm.
Typical Activities/Responsibilities will include:
- Operate all equipment in a safe and efficient way according to all relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
- Perform daily safety and maintenance checks, reporting any faults or issues to the Fleet and Plant Manager.
- Keep the cab tidy and clean at all times and ensure the vehicle is washed frequently and maintained in a clean condition as required. Always ensure vehicle has been washed prior to any service or inspection.
- Advise the Fleet and Plant Manager of any requirements for maintenance or repairs.
- Deliver and collect materials as per scheduled routes and dispose of according to set policies and procedures.
- To plan and adapt routes as necessary and notify the Supervisors of any issues relating to load planning and routing.
- To complete all paperwork promptly and accurately as required, including the maintenance daily records of deliveries and collections.
- To act as Company ambassador when dealing with customers and members of the public, including responding a courteous and respectful manner to any complaints in relation to schedules, and levels and quality of service.
- Whilst visiting sites (ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, rules and regulations as pertaining to health and safety, challenging any unsafe or dangerous situation or activity and reporting any ‘accidents’ or ‘near misses’ to the Fleet and Plant Manager.
- Whilst working on site ensure that the mandatory Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), boots, high-viz orange trousers or overalls, high-viz vest or jacket, hard hat, safety glasses and gloves for identified tasks and substances is worn.
- Monitor the actions of the other members of the team and feedback to the Supervisor as required.
- Undertake additional duties as required, commensurate with the level of the job.
Qualifications and Experience
- Hold an Category C Driving License (Class 2) a Driver CPC and a Tacho card.
- Have a good level of education, including good maths and written skills to enable the individual to record collections and maintain daily record.
- Experienced in all aspects of driving HGVs.
- Experience in dealing with customers in person.
- Thorough knowledge of drivers’ hours’ legislation, tachograph procedures and other legal obligations.
- Good geographical knowledge with map reading ability.
- Effective verbal and listening skills, plus the ability to stay calm when dealing with people/customers.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and is prepared to use own initiative.
- Have the willingness to learn new business software i.e. hand-held devices and smart phones.
