Sheffield Forgemasters is an iconic heavy engineering company which is capable of producing the largest and most technically challenging cast and forged steel components in the world from its manufacturing facilities in Sheffield.
In 2021 the business was acquired by the UK Ministry of Defence so as to secure its role as a critical supplier to the next generation of UK defence programmes and it is currently embarking upon a substantial programme of capital investment to modernise its plant and equipment over the next 10 years
As a Heat Treatment Operative you will be operating heat treatment plant and equipment to produce hardened steel rolls.
The main duties of the role are as follows:
Crane driving and slinging to move forgings and large machined components to facilitate heat treatment operations, both horizontally and vertically.
Operating Induction hardening stands for hardening rolls, performing coil and quench tank setup changes.
Physical use of heavy tools and tackle as necessary for lifting and setup changes
Operating computerised touchscreen systems for induction hardening and furnace recorders.
Operating gas fired hardening and tempering furnaces using programmable controllers
Training will be given in the use of hardness testing instruments
In this role we are looking for people who are able to use their own initiative, to be self-motivated and to undertake varied job tasks as and when required.
General housekeeping duties to bring and maintain the Roll Hardening Department to world class standards.
Any other duties commensurate with the job role
Candidates must have:
Understanding of and compliance with Health & Safety Regulations.
Willing and able to work shifts
Must be capable of working individually and as part of a team.
Ability to use own initiative
Flexible, positive and adaptable attitude to work and manufacturing environment
Ideally Candidates will have:
Crane driving license
Counter balance Fork Lift Truck license
Previous experience of crane driving and slinging
Experience in operating Fork Lift Truck (Counterbalance) & Reach Truck
Previous experience in a heavy engineering or similar environment
Previous experience working in a heat treatment environment
Days/Hours of Work:
2 Shift rotation Mornings and Nights:
Mornings – Monday to Thursday 6am – 2.30pm, Friday 6am – 12pm
Nights – Monday – Thursday 8pm – 6am
