A fantastic opportunity to join a thriving training practice, looking to welcome a medical Healthcare Assistant to the team.
You will work closely with our well established clinical team of GPs to help provide clinical care and manage acute demand, seeing patients with a variety of conditions both in the surgery and in their homes as well as residential homes.
We are looking for someone to work 37.5 hours a week, Monday-Friday.
This role is also open to part time applicants.

Main duties of the job
You will be assisting in patient care and practice related duties as directed by and under the supervision of a registered healthcare professional, working collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of patients, following policy and procedures.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the practice in achieving the outcome & qualities framework (QOF) & supplementary national services (SNS) and any local initiatives towards patient care.
- Assisting and participating in long term management reviews (i.e diabetes, hypertension)
- BP checks/new patient registrations checks/primary prevention/urinalysis/height/BMI and weight advice
- NHS health checks, ECG's and stock checks
- Flu vaccinations/clinics

About us
Stony Medical Centre is an established training practice of 11,500 patients.
We have two GP trainers in the practice reflecting our commitment to lifelong learning and we are all involved in the training of our Registrars. We have weekly education meetings and all clinical staff are encouraged to participate in selecting topics, running events and presenting learning.
We are forward thinking, working closely with our CCG resulting in the development of community clinics which we are now delivering within Dermatology and Gynaecology.
We are part of the Watling Street Network (PCN) and have a community team including nurses, social prescribers and social work assistant supporting our patient populations.
We are a busy practice, but supportive, friendly and collaborative.
Essential and Desirable Criteria
Candidates with both clerical and health care support experience will be at an advantage. Those candidates with only one set of experience must demonstrate a willingness to learn the other set of skills.
Essential Qualifications
- GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths
- Qualified to NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care
Essential Experience
- Experience of dealing with the public face to face and over the telephone
- Experience of working as a health care assistant or equivalent
- Awareness of health and safety issues in the work place
- Understanding of the need to keep and maintain accurate records
- Understanding of equal opportunities
- Understanding of the importance of patient confidentiality and the consequences of breaking confidentiality
- Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary, multi-agency primary care team
Other Essential Criteria
- Literate and able to perform basic numerical calculations
- Fluent in spoken and written English
- Ability to accurately receive, record and relay information both verbally and written
- Ability to store and retrieve files from numerical, alphabetical and computerised filing systems
- Computer skills
- Ability to work on own initiative
- Ability to organise delegated work
- Polite and helpful manner
- Enthusiasm to learn
- Openness to explore alternative working practices
- Flexible with working hours
- Must have Hepatitis B vaccine or be willing to undergo a vaccination programme
Desirable Criteria
- Qualification/experience in phlebotomy
- Fluent in one or more languages in the local community and willingness to use this skill in working with the public
- Reception experience
