Job description
- Provide Health & Safety advice to management, employees, and external agencies.
- Proactively support compliance (statutory requirements/company standards).
- Interpret legislative information and translate into practical, workable documentation for communication across the business.
- Auditing, inspecting, and reporting on, then support and deliver health and safety performance and best practice across all sites.
- Ensure our operations have all procedures for adherence to legislation, codes of practice and external standards.
- Create / update emergency plans.
- Undertake and review risk assessments and method statements as required. Ensure management have full understanding and capability.
- Create management reports, analyse trends (injuries, near misses and accidents), make recommendations, and adopt change.
- Assisting in documenting and investigating incident, accidents and near misses.
- Provide toolbox talks and inductions as required.
- Develop and maintain a positive safety culture.
- Actively participating in meetings to bring a safety perspective/understanding to the business. Keeping up to date with new legislation and best practices in the industry.
- Produce a monthly activity report for the Operations Manager.
- Conduct H&S Audits and manage actions (with 3rdparty use if required).
Person Specification
- Minimum 3 years’ practical experience in a similar role, ideally in the waste industry.
- NEBOSH certificate (Safety & Environmental) or equivalent.
- Auditor and training qualifications (preferred but not essential).
- Health & Safety experience (ideally 3 years).
- Experienced in accident/incident investigation and report writing.
- Experience with ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001
- Experienced in writing and delivering health & safety-related training.
- Confident IT skills (Word, PDF, PowerPoint & Excel etc.).
- Hands-on approach and adept at building relationships.
- Be self-motivated and happy to work independently.
- Analytical, proactive and organised.
- Confident and comfortable presenting to groups of managers.
- Calm and profession approach to work.
- SharePoint experience is an advantage.
- Full UK driving licence
