Health and Safety Business Partner – Engineering
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join KeolisAmey Metrolink as Health and Safety Business Partner for Engineering. You will have the unique opportunity to provide hands on health and safety advice to the Engineering and Maintenance function at the UK’s largest light rail operator.
The Health and Safety Business Partner will actively support the Engineering function to implement the KAM health and safety management system, continuously improving our risk management approach through an innovative mindset and embedding our vision of a just and learning culture.
Your key accountabilities will include:
Provision of day-to-day support and guidance to operational functions across the Engineering department, to enable the implementation of KAM's health and safety management system including:
- Identifying and assessing risks and establishing appropriate risk control systems.
- Supporting the investigation of adverse events and establishing recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Implementing a risk-based assurance programme including on-site inspections, tours, and audits to assess compliance and effectiveness of risk controls.
- Reviewing new legislative requirements and industry standards, assessing their impact on KAM engineering activities and providing guidance on implementation.
- Support the Engineering Director and Heads of Department in the implementation of effective safety communications to support increased awareness of health and safety matters within the engineering teams.
- Supporting the Health, Safety, Quality and Environment (HSQE) and Engineering Director's in the development of relevant safety and competence standards
- Support and participate in functional safety governance meetings.
- Support the Director of HSQE in the creation of a proactive, just, and continuous learning culture throughout the organisation.
- Contribute to the KAM HSQE strategy and annual plans.
- Contribute to the identification and implementation of safety innovations and improvements.
- Undertake statutory reporting duties as required (i.e., RIDDOR and RAIB).
- Presenting health and safety performance indicators at weekly visualisation meetings.
- Occasional on-site visits during planned work out of standard office hours.
What you’ll bring
- Professional knowledge and experience are recognised through the role holder working towards Chartered Member (or working towards) of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH).
- Qualified to NEBOSH Certificate level or equivalent.
- Experience of providing authoritative guidance to Senior Management Teams and Department Heads on day-to-day health and safety matters across a large multi-functional organisation.
- Broad level of proficiency across health and safety, including relevant legislation, underpinned through experience in the field.
- Relevant business experience, preferable but not essential in passenger transport operations in heavy rail, light rail, or other highly regulated industry.
- Experience of working in a highly regulated industry.
