Job description
You will provide professional skills and expertise to achieve the Trust’s vision and objectives for health, safety and security. You will ensure high quality local delivery of this work, according to legislative requirements, standards, advice and guidance provided by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) or other relevant bodies.
You will provide specialist advice and guidance aimed at evolving the Trust’s procedures, systems and practice in line with relevant legal duties, influences, case law and evidence-based best practice with the twin aims of promoting staff health, safety and wellbeing and patient safety, comfort and dignity.
This objective will be achieved by working in close partnership with stakeholders at all levels within the Trust and external organisations such as other ambulance services, professional representative bodies and trade unions.
You will aim to provide a comprehensive, inclusive and professional service to the Trust and work towards the creation of a pro-health, safety and security culture.
You will be required to influence the reduction of health, safety and security related incidents across SWAST, developing reporting mechanisms for improving the use of incident data to reduce risks.
The duties and responsibilities of the post will be undertaken in accordance with the policies, procedures and practices of the Trust, which may be amended from time to time. The post holder will also be required to apply for CRB Disclosure.
Provide proactive and reactive health and safety advice, guidance, training and support to all levels within the Trust and across a wide and complex range of subjects.
Provide managers and staff with specialist expertise, advice and guidance on all aspects of manual handling to assist SWAST in avoiding, assessing and reducing the risk of injuries from manual handling
Analyse and collate complex data concerning accident/incident reports, accident statistics, audit actions etc. and draft in an appropriate format for provision to management and health and safety representatives.
Develop, implement, and report on a programme of health and safety inspections and audits for a designated operational region as part of the Trustwide programme developed by the Health, Safety and Security Manager.
Develop a work plan following the health and safety inspections and monitor on a regular basis, updating actions as completed, work with departments identified with outstanding actions.
Develop and maintain in depth knowledge of key health and safety areas.
Support day to day work to tackle violence against Trust staff and support the work to ensure security related issues are an integral part of the Trust’s management processes.
Support the delivery of health and safety and security training in accordance with the Trust’s Training Needs Analysis.
Attend local and external meetings as required and present reports on health, safety, and security issues.
