Caretaker

NHS Professionals require an experienced, pro-active, and hardworking Caretaker to join the Estates & Facilities team at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.

This is a full-time ongoing temporary Caretaker role, based Queen's Medical Centre, Derby Road, Lenton, Nottingham NG7 2UH

Hours: Mondays – Sundays 8am – 4pm. Working 5 days out of 7 days, on a rota basis.

The post holder will undertake general caretaking and maintenance duties, in line with Trust policies and procedures. The post holder must be willing to work on a variety of tasks. The Patient Environment Caretaker will make necessary arrangements directly with ward and departmental staff and organise work methods, equipment, and materials. Undertake maintenance activities within an acute hospital setting in a timely and efficient manner. The post holder will have their base of work at Queen’s Medical Centre with the possibility of travelling to other sites/campus.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

· You will be part of the Facilities and Estates team carrying out a range of small-scale minor maintenance tasks. The post holder will report to the Assistant Cleaning Services Manager, with a responsibility to the Estates workshop manager but will also work closely with clinical stakeholders to help maintain the hospital site and grounds.

· Undertake a range of general duties, including, but not limited to, clearing drains and gulley’s floor maintenance, replacing shower heads and where appropriate the operation of specialist equipment.

· Undertake water sampling and flushing, recording and keep accurate records, updating Management Data Systems in use.

· Carry out minor installation work, including but not limited to the fixing of notice boards and other small items of equipment.

· Use specialist hand tools (screwdrivers, spanners, socket sets, Allen keys etc.) to remove radiator covers, guards, light fitting diffusers and ventilation grilles as necessary to clean, ensure that they are refitted correctly prior to reuse of the room/area.

· Carry out risk assessments prior to commencing tasks and throughout the duration of the works ensuring that no tools, chemicals etc. are unattended.

· Ensure that the grounds, pathways, car parks and entrances are clean and tidy and well maintained, including moving snow, light gritting in the winter months if necessary.

Personal Specifications

· Knowledge and understanding of a range of maintenance work procedures for different trades gained through training and induction, part qualification or equivalent, i.e. electrical and plumbing.

· Willing to undertake necessary training deemed relevant to the role e.g. NVQ/QCF Level 1 in Customer Care or equivalent. Physically fit, able to climb vertical ladders.

· Previous relevant experience in the maintenance of building is essential.

· General working knowledge of engineering equipment and tools Current full UK –valid Driving Licence.

· Excellent verbal communication & interpersonal skills / telephone manner

· Ability to plan own work/tasks.
