Job description

We have an exciting opportunity to recruit more Senior Health Care Assistants to join our amazing team in the Emergency Department due to us expanding our existing workforce.

Are you motivated and enjoy the challenges of helping to look after patients with urgent care needs? Do you want to be part of a proactive and dedicated nursing team? Do you want to develop your skills in Emergency Care? If you answer yes, then this could be the job for you.

The successful candidate will be supported to develop their skills and knowledge within the clinical setting and supported within the QCF (Qualifications and Credit Framework). The Emergency Department fully supports all of our nursing staff in their career development and you will have the opportunity to be considered for the TNA (Trainee Nursing Associate).

The Emergency Department has a development programme for health care assistants from Band 3 to Band 4. You will be encouraged to continue to develop your skills to include application of plaster of paris casts by the registered plaster practitioners that the Emergency Department employs. There is a strong emphasis on development and training, as well as local mentor group support.

What tasks will you do?

As aHealth Care Support Worker you will help patients feel as comfortable and stress-free as possible. You'll work under the guidance of a healthcare professional such as a nurse and your job will vary depending on the ward you are based, but overall a typical day as aHealth Care Support Workerwill involve:

  • Helping patients wash, dress and go to the toilet, make beds
  • Serve meals and help our patients eat and drink
  • Contribute to patient assessments
Our hospital is a 24 hour service as our patients need care and attention around the clock, therefore we work on a shift basis and you are likely to be given early, late, twilight and night shifts, so everyone gets involved working different shifts to ensure our patients receive the very best care.

This may be a big change to you and your lifestyle but our teams who work around the clock say that they enjoy the varied work pattern and get to work with more colleagues compared to the usual 9-5.

At the RUH we’re proud to put people at the heart of what we do, working together as one team to make a difference for our patients, each other, and our community. No matter what your role is, we value everyone’s contribution in supporting the exceptional, person-centred care we pride ourselves on.

We are committed to creating a compassionate and inclusive environment. This can be seen in our growing community of staff networks – celebrating successes and creating opportunities to listen and learn. We value our differences, champion kindness and civility, and truly believe that diversity makes us stronger.

A culture of learning, developing and innovating is the thread that runs throughout our whole organisation. We want to support you to thrive, taking your career to its full potential.

We value staff wellbeing, with a well-established programme of support. We believe in a holistic approach spanning all aspects of living a healthy life, including physical, emotional, spiritual and financial wellbeing. We’ve even got a pool!

We are committed to supporting you and hope you want to join our team.
