Job Title: Healthcare Assistant
Clinically Responsible to: Named Doctor/named Practice Nurse
Administratively Responsible to: Practice Manager
JOB SUMMARY/DEFINITION
“The Healthcare Assistant will work within the healthcare team having the necessary knowledge and skills to perform care safely, treat the patient with respect, dignity and kindness, and maintain confidentiality at all times.
He/she will work under the direct supervision of a registered practitioner who is accountable and therefore responsible for ensuring, monitoring and evaluating the delivery of care.”
SUMMARY OF PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
The Healthcare Assistant will be able to:
1. Prioritise and deliver basic care to patients as directed. Work to protocols as per instruction by clinician.
2. Assist as chaperone, where required, to General Practitioners.
3. Run phlebotomy clinics. (Warfarin).
4. Assist in and carry out certain clinical procedures if required or diagnostic procedures (e.g. ECGs) as instructed by the Practice and as long as there are clear protocols and the Supervision Clinician is satisfied with the HCA’s competence.
5. Undertake ear syringing, administering B12 vaccinations, and applying simple dressings when fully trained to do so.
6. To restock consulting rooms as required.
7. Assist in ordering stock and care of equipment.
8. Relay appropriate information over the telephone in a clear and concise manner as required
9. Contribute to the health and safety of self and others and promote good health
10. Understand and comply with the surgery policy on security of premises and patient’s belongings.
11. Understand the importance of confidentiality and have acceptable communication and interpersonal skills.
12. Respond to clinical emergencies eg. Cardiac Arrest, and understand basic first aid skills.
13. Understand the significance of the GDPR the storage and retrieval of records and have relevant I.T. knowledge.
14. Promote equality of all clients by anti-discriminatory practice.
15. Carry out housekeeping duties and any reasonable requests, including clerical duties made by the team leader.

5. The post-holder is required to take reasonable care for the health and safety of themselves and others that may be affected by what they do while at work
6. This post may require the post-holder to travel across the Practice sites in the course of fulfilment of their duties.
7. Clinical governance: You will be expected to take part in the processes for
Monitoring and improving the quality of care provided to patients. This includes risk management and clinical audit. If you engage in clinical research you must follow Practice protocols and ensure that the research has had ethical approval.
You will be expected to ensure that patients receive the information they need and are treated with dignity and respect for their privacy.

Part-time hours: 27 per week
Salary: £11.76 per hour
