JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: HEALTHCARE ASSISTANT RADBROOK GREEN SURGERY

REPORTS TO: LEAD PRACTICE NURSE (Clinically and Administratively)

HOURS: 21 hours (3 days)

Job Summary:

Working under the direct supervision of the Lead Practice Nurse and strictly in accordance with specific Practice guidelines and protocols, the Healthcare Assistant will assist the Practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • New patient and annual health checks
  • ECG recording
  • Phlebotomy
  • Chaperoning duties
  • Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/Nurses
  • Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording
  • Assist in the organisation of surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation
  • Assist with clearing and maintaining good stock levels of equipment needed in consulting rooms on a regular basis
  • Assist in ordering stock for Nursing Department
  • Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations
  • Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients’ health and well-being
  • Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual (simple dressings and complex wound care dressings/bandaging)
  • Removal of sutures and clips
  • Measure patients for appliance fitting
  • Blood pressure checks including 24 hour BP monitor and home monitors
  • Health promotion
  • B12 and flu injections
  • Assess patients for ear irrigation and perform ear irrigation with further training
  • Adhere to protocols
  • NHS Health Checks
  • Urinalysis

  • Using personal security systems within the workplace according to Practice guidelines.
  • Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks
  • Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills
  • Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards
  • Reporting potential risks identified

The post-holder will:

  • Apply Practice policies, standards and guidance
  • Discuss with other members of the team how the policies, standards and guidelines will affect own work
  • Participate in audit where appropriate

Job Types: Part-time, Permanent
Part-time hours: 21 per week

Salary: £10.42-£11.20 per hour
