About the Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic, well-motivated experienced Health Care Assistant individual to fit into our friendly team to support the Nursing team. We are a supportive, well organised and enthusiastic Practice, dedicated to providing high quality care to our patients.
Working under the direct supervision of the Senior Practice Nurse and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, you will assist the clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.
You will be able to apply your clinical skills and knowledge to carry out high quality practice within designated clinical areas such as:
- Wound care, venepuncture, phlebotomy checks and administering of medicines and vaccines.
- New patient health checks.
- Re-stocking and stock rotation of surgical equipment and vaccines.
- Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms.
- Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations.
- Providing valuable health promotion and education for service users, their families and carers.
The role will offer you the opportunity to build on your experience, skills and competence of working effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team as you will work alongside fellow professionals within the practice in support of one another.
The hours are 37.5 per week Monday to Friday. Some flexibility is required as you will be required to cover various shift patterns.

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills, together with the ability to work well under pressure. The ideal candidate must have communication and IT skills and be able to work as part of a team.
Experience should include the following.
- Measurement of height and weight
- Calculation of BMI
- Urinalysis
- Recording of blood pressure
- Recording of peak flow
- Recording information both manually and on computer system
- Maintaining equipment
- Undertaking other clinical activities identified by the practice nurse or doctor in accordance with agreed written protocols
- Act as chaperone support if required by doctors
- ECG
- Spirometry
- Assist Minor Ops
- D-Dimer trained
- Undertake Mental Health/New Patient health checks
- Phlebotomy- Desirable
- Administration
- Assisting in Chronic Disease Management Clinic with Practice Nurse
- Maintain, store and retrieve records – computerised System 1
- Provide clerical support for the nursing team in organising clinics including appointment recall systems and immunisation clinic
- Receive and transmit information by telephone to agreed practice standard with particular attention to confidentiality
- Prepare clinical areas, including instrument preparation for specific clinical sessions
- Maintain stock levels of equipment and materials according to the needs of the practice in conjunction with the Health Care Support Workers
- In discussion with the nursing team, be responsible for supplying health promotion materials in the waiting area and consulting rooms

About Us
We are a friendly, supportive, democratic, well organised and enthusiastic GMS Practice, dedicated to providing traditional family orientated General Practice based at a new purpose built single site health centre in Harlow. We currently have approx 20,000 patients, 6 Partners, 2 Salaried GP’s, a large nursing support team and a vast array of administrative staff. We are a Training Practice and also Teaching Practice for Cambridge and Barts students. We are also a Research Practice.
We are consistent high achievement in all QOF and Enhanced Services areas with an innovative team structure with individual patient lists (around 2,500 per FTE GP). We operate the SystmOne computer system. We are active members of local GP federation and CCG.
Lister Medical Centre has easy access to M11/M25, close to London and Stansted and attractive Essex and Hertfordshire countryside, excellent schools.
