Job description
The HCA is responsible for seeing patients with booked appointments for clinical procedures.Using your own judgment and communication skills to ensure those patients with no prior appointment but who need urgent consultation, are seen in a logical and non-disruptive manner.The HCA will liaise closely at all levels within the teams.To embrace any new ideas with confidence and enthusiasm that will take the practice forward.Key ResponsibilitiesPhlebotomyNew patient health checksNHS health checksContribute towards learning disability health checksECG recordingBlood pressure monitoring/24 hr BP monitor/Home BP monitoringHypertension reviewsFlu vaccinations under PSDUrinalysisChaperoningPreparation and processing of laboratory samples ie MSU, sputum, faecesPreparing medical equipment by ensuring infection and control procedures are adhered toEnsure clinical waste collection runs smoothly, reporting any problems to the Practice nurse lead and ensure that sharps bins are ready for collectionWorking strictly within the guidelines and boundaries that are set, referring to the Practice nurse lead or GP for any clinical decisions that are to be madeMaintaining a professional attitude at all times towards patients and displaying an understanding and a caring attitudeJob Responsibilities non clinicalMaintain general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment roomsTo have a thorough knowledge of Practice proceduresTo work in accordance of written protocolsMaintain stock of patient information leaflets as instructedOrdering of health promotion literature as requested/requiredOrdering of clinical supplies and vaccinations to maintain stock levelsVaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recordingCarry out regular stock control of medical equipment in consulting and treatment rooms on a weekly basisChecking calibration due dates for medical equipmentChange computer cartridges and paper when requiredContact helplines for technical support for medical equipment when required Participation in administrative systems in the PracticeMaintain accurate and timely records, ensuring the clinical system is kept up to dateA duty to advice Practice nurse lead/managers of potential problems or errors within a range of assigned tasksAttend and participate in any practice meetings and TARGET training when requiredAny other delegated duties appropriate to the postResponsible for own time managementTo assist in seasonal and special projects as requested eg.
