As a Health Care Assistant, you will be supporting patients with their personal needs including washing and toileting, serving meals and feeding patients, helping patients to move around, making beds, talking to patients and their families and monitoring the patient’s condition. You will be a hugely valuable support to our Nursing teams providing care to our patients. Every day will be different and you will work alongside the rest of the team carrying out a wide range of tasks and assisting with care to support the needs of the patients and their families.

The role can also lead to a range of career opportunities. With the right support, those who want to can undertake the necessary training to become our future Nursing Associates and Registered Nurses.

We will provide the substantive successful candidates with 2 weeks “Prepare to Care Induction” and additional support to those new to health care. You will also have 2 weeks supernumerary period in the ward after you induction. We would like to ensure that we give the best quality care for our patients and the right support for you.

  • To assist patients to carry out personal care including meeting hygiene, nutrition and continence needs
  • To assist patient to mobilise where appropriate.
  • Taking and recording of temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, height and weight on instruction from the RN. Recording the results appropriately and reporting any abnormalities to the RN or Nurse in Charge.
  • Testing specimens and recording the results.
  • Under the supervision of the RN, support patients undergoing clinical procedures ensuring their comfort and safety
  • To restock departmental areas as required reporting any shortages to the NiC/Ward Manager.
  • To adhere to the policy for the Control of Infection.
  • To maintain the confidentiality of information about patients, staff and other health service business.
  • To participate in quality assurance programmes as required.
  • To participate in the promotion of a positive learning environment and to act as a role model at all times.
  • To be aware of and contribute to Clinical Governance arrangements/issues for area of work.
