Job description
We are recruiting for a Health and Safety Manager (ideally NEBOSH qualified) for a global packaging supplier at their metal production facility in Wrexham with some travel to their Rugby site occasionally. This is a permanent role offering a salary up to £50k per annum working Monday to Friday 8am-4pm with flexibility required plus hybrid working 1 day per week.
As Health and Safety Manager you will be reporting into the Plant Manager, this is standalone role supporting up to 250 employees onsite with responsibility for the effective running of the plant’s HSE department ensuring it meets all company and legislative obligation. Your role will include the following:
- Promote safe working practices and be a role model within the plant for this subject
- Stay abreast of environmental and health and safety legislation and create robust management systems to proactively ensure the plant complies with such legislation
- Ensure plant management are aware and informed of legislative requirements and that they are translated into actions and included in the management system
- Responsible for developing, integrating and maintaining environmental and health and safety management systems across all plant personnel, visitors, contractors and temps, etc. To ensure compliance with all requirements
- In conjunction with HR, ensuring that ALL employees and/or temps receive suitable environmental and health and safety training, including inductions to site
- Develop and progress the site annual safety plan, environmental management programme and FSPP.
- Develop and maintain a risk assessment programme across the site
- Responsible and accountable for operating within plant health and safety budget and environmental budget targets
- Ensure relevant corrective action is taken, as required, for all equipment and operational problems/potential problems to maintain and improve the EH&S operation
- Participate in the behavioural based safety programme, train employees and monitor data.
- Timely accident investigation and reporting to all relevant internal/external parties and to the Plant Management team and highlight necessary corrective actions
- Review all health, safety & environment and fire incidents and keep the Plant Manager informed
- Maintain and develop the site accreditation status with external bodies for environmental and health and safety activities
- Participate in the management review process
- Lead multi-disciplined health, safety & environment meetings in order to review health, safety & environment status and assign responsibilities
- Liaise with regulatory authorities (including DEFRA) and ensure that their requirements are dealt with efficiently
- Manage all plant energy reduction programmes
We are really keen to hear from applicants with the following skills and experience:
- Health and Safety qualification with engineering background (ideally NEBOSH qualified, IOSH considered)
- Experience in a H&S management or standalone role
- Competency in MS Office, and ideally SAP and QA systems including Ena-blon, Analyse, Prisma, Win CC, Sharepoint and Infinity
- Excellent production/ technical knowledge of a high speed manufacturing environment
