Job summary
As BDUK’s Head of Statistics and Reporting you will be responsible for building a unified picture of the current state of the commercial and publicly funded digital infrastructure, present & future. Understanding this will be critical to the success of BDUK’s mission to ensure that every UK home and business can access fast and reliable digital connectivity. It will play a particular role in shaping the delivery of the £5bn Project Gigabit.
The post holder will be responsible for BDUK’s reporting of its performance against its targets, upon which its senior stakeholders depend, as well as managing and developing the visualisations and decision support tools that enable BDUK to achieve them. This person will work closely with DDaT colleagues to convert data on the market and UK territory into actionable information and insights that improve BDUK decision making and delivery.
This high profile post will require a confident statistician and leader who is able to work across boundaries and identify and implement innovative solutions.
Job description
- Lead the production of regular dashboards and KPIs tracking BDUK’s performance against targets
- Lead the production of BDUK’s performance report and quarterly publications in line with the Code of Practice for statistics
- Manage the development of new visualisation and reporting tools providing geospatial, performance and financial information to various BDUK teams
- Manage the BDUK analytical community’s relationship with BDUK’s DDaT team to drive improvements to the scope, availability, currency and accuracy of key BDUK data flows
- Lead and manage a team of direct reports providing support across the activities set out above
- Lead the delivery of a portfolio of project-based activity, including prioritising activity, capturing user requirements, commissioning analytical colleagues, managing a diverse range of contributors, launching and training audiences

Interview

This role is full time only. Applicants who wish to work an alternative pattern are welcome to apply however your preferred working pattern may not be available and you should discuss this with the vacancy holder before applying.
The expectation within BDUK is that staff will normally remain in post for a minimum of 12 months for band C, 18 months for band B and 24 months for band A/AU and will not apply for BDUK roles on level transfer during that time.

Location
This role can be based in London, Manchester, Darlington or Belfast. The hub locations are displayed on the job advert. Not all hub locations yet have confirmed office space - successful applicants will be expected to work remotely until this becomes available.
Existing BDUK and DCMS staff who are currently based in London and are successful in gaining this role will be able to remain working from the London base.
