Job description
We seek to appoint a Head of Subject for Art & Design to join our dynamic and creative Leeds School of Arts community. As the Head of Subject for Art & Design you will lead the successful development and delivery of our programme activity and research within the subject area. The Art & Design subject area comprises undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD study in the disciplines of Fine Art, Graphic Design, 3D Design, Illustration, Fashion Design, Fashion Marketing and Product Design.
The Leeds School of Arts at Leeds Beckett University has a rich and powerful history that dates back 170yrs to the original Leeds School of Art founded in 1846. With around 3,000 students studying 50 courses across the subject areas of Art & Design, Architecture, Design, Music & Sound, and Film & Creative Technologies and Performing Arts, LSA is now one of the largest Higher Education Arts Schools in the North. The LSA is a pioneering and highly creative school which supports students to create, think and make while responding to the world around them. Our students work closely with our teaching staff, all experts in their field, across a range of subjects and we are a community of creatives, producing ambitious work in a rich and well-resourced learning environment. The School is based in our £80m Arts building in the centre of Leeds, complemented by our iconic Broadcasting Place Art and Design Studios, just a short walk away.
As Head of Subject for Art & Design you will be an established academic with strong records in teaching, research and professional practice in the subject area, a committed team player with proven experience of leading, managing and deploying a large team of staff. You will also possess experience in developing and delivering strategies to increase student recruitment, improve league table positions and the overall reputation of the school.
As a Head of Subject, you will be responsible for providing academic leadership including the direct line management of academic staff and will report directly to the Dean of School. Both as a Head of Subject and as a member of the School’s Leadership Team you will play a key strategic role in ensuring the development and enhancement of the Art & Design subject area as well as our regional, national and international reputation.
