Job description
Head of People & Culture
The opportunity:
As part of our Senior Management Team, we are excited to welcome someone who demonstrates the balance between empathy, objectivity, and commerciality, with a pragmatic approach. Someone who has enormous emotional intelligence, able to step back and be the critical friend to colleagues and, in particular, the Executive and Senior Management Team. Someone who can be brave, but also knows how to assess risk, be able to articulate what they are and then provide options to resolve them.
Don’t worry if you have areas of development, this role has enormous scope to grow and develop alongside the organisation as it also grows. We are ambitious in our plans for delivery, so we can support more people to transform their lives. We need you to help us deliver our ambitions and enhance our workforce.
There is lots to get your teeth into and we are really looking to build and develop our People Strategy and ensure that we are meeting the needs of the GLT Team.
We envisage the priorities within this role to be in three broad stages:
1: Be the sponge! - Soak up the operation and get to know the people.
2: Evaluate - Outline the strengths of GLT and where we need to develop further. Develop an outline of activity required to strengthen the HR function and the wider organisational activity and culture.
3. Implement – Work with the Operations Director and Senior Management Team to implement the people strategy in line with our vision and values, alongside having an eye on the business as usual. This phase will be the biggest of all and anticipate this work to be conducted over a series of change management projects. For example – introduction of a new HR system.
The role will be a great fit if you have:
- Demonstrable experience in leading, driving and delivering projects that translate People strategy into tangible deliverables.
- Proven experience of operating in a senior role with the confidence to engage and influence at senior level.
- Amazing time management skills that mean deadlines are met and if the odd left field subject does crop up, with a bit of juggling it doesn’t cause longer term issues
- The ability to prioritise work load, but also what needs to be delivered in GLT to create the agreed outcomes
- Excellent technical and professional knowledge and be up to date with the latest employment trends and best practice.
- Strong analytical skills and be able to translate data and insights into evidence-based narrative to support business decisions.
- A personal mind-set of continuous improvement, self-motivation, and strategic thinking.
- Motivation to work within a business that balances commerciality with a socially focused purpose.
- The ability to apply critical, creative thinking and evidence to constructively challenge the status quo with credibility.
Benefits:
Starting salary between £45,000-£48,000
- Technology – Cloud based everything with a laptop and all the bits you need to work where suits you best – including remote IT support.
- Proper holiday - 25 days annual leave + bank holidays as well as that time between Christmas and New Year you always forget to book.
- Flexible working as standard from day one – Work from home or at our carbon neutral HQ (sit next to the wood burner) or a combination of what brings out the best in you.
- Rewards and support - Enhanced employee rewards package, no questions access to counselling support. Time out in the woods to be at one with nature. Supported time off when you need it most.
- Genuine development - Regular performance reviews, support, and progression opportunities.
- Training and coaching– Where do you want to be? What do you need to get there? Answer those questions and we’ll find a way to make it happen with training and amazing coaching with Alitus!
