The Content Finance team is responsible for managing the overall finances associated with BBC Studios investment into Content IP (c£450m overall costs, c£200m capital investment spend p/year) and the recognition of value derived from that content through its divisional P&L’s
Working at the intersection of Studios Production, Global Distribution and CP&L businesses, the team is responsible for leading all aspects of month-end, forecasting and annual plans for the activities of Content Investment and Content returns.
Main ResponsibilitiesControllership and Reporting
- Provide financial controllership over the investment that BBC Studios makes in content rights, including amortisation of advances and royalties, maintaining a strong controls environment.
- Operate the internal “funds flow” model, which attributes and allocated value from exploited content between distribution and production business (i.e., IP exploiter and IP creators)
- Manage cash flow and working capital reporting and regular forecasting of content investment spend.
- Support Production leadership in understanding the impact of investment decisions on their P&L’s. through insightful and timely performance reporting on invested Content performance to date, including potential risks & opportunities to full year targets.
- Provide timely, accurate and insightful management information to internal & external stakeholders over the actual and forecast financial performance of invested Content IP – past, current and future
Financial Planning
- Provide leadership of the quarterly forecast and annual budgeting cycle, acting as the key bridge between Production, Global Distribution and CP&L finance team, ensuring consistency of planning assumptions and shared understanding of performance, risks and opportunities
- Provide supporting analysis and insight to Inform long range plan assumptions
People Management
- Responsible for career development and talent retention of the Content Finance team (team of 5).
- Embed culture of continuous improvement of processes and information for all aspects of Content Finance. Act as a leader for change, encouraging regular review of key processes and collaboration across teams.
- Contribute to the wider development and leadership of Finance, promoting and championing collaboration, creativity and diversity.
- Exceptional organisational skills, able to balance many competing priorities.
- Proactive when solving complex problems with ability to influence a diverse range of stakeholders to drive change
- Strong analytical and planning skills with experience of driving insight from complex and disparate data sets.
- Strong communication and presentation skills – able to explain highly complex processes to non-financial stakeholders
- A natural collaborator who can bring together stakeholders from different parts of the business and gain trust with stakeholders quickly through transparency and delivery
- Experience in accounting for rights investment is desirable
