Without Geography you are lost! All students at the UTC choose between Geography or Computer Science at GCSE, as such, almost half our cohort study this subject. The applicant will be able to deliver the specification of their choice, across the Trust there are a number of teams who deliver different specifications, and we are flexible based upon the candidate’s experiences. This role may also incorporate the delivery of Environmental Science A level which builds firmly upon the Science and Geography curriculum and the EPQ qualification (provided sixth form numbers are sufficient) – training and courses will be available to any Geographer without experience in these.

Our Opportunity

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated Teacher of Geography to join our department, teaching to our Foundation Year (Year 9), KS4 and KS5.

The Geography department is formed of one person – this role –, but you will be under the leadership of the Director of English & PD, which places the position in a team of 4. In addition, the Trust has strong Geography leaders at other secondary schools who are on hand to provide support and guidance to the successful candidate. An independent, experienced practitioner, who can be self-motivated and feel confident to work autonomously will find this rewarding.

The successful candidate will be able to plan and teach engaging Geography lessons as part of our curriculum. Students have discrete Geography lessons from KS3 to KS5 and the successful candidate must be able to teach across the ability range.

The college has 235 students in year 9-11 and 35 Sixth Form students. Classes are mixed ability.

• Understand, meet and promote all aspects of the teacher standards.
• Have excellent subject knowledge demonstrating a true passion and commitment to Geography; be a learner, continually reflecting and considering steps to make to develop and enhance practice.
