ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Head of Editorial Content, HEC, is responsible for heading up British Vogue - shaping the storytelling and design of the brand in the UK market. As the territory’s most senior editorial figure, the Head of Editorial Content will oversee local content on digital, print, video, and social, and be the key liaison within Vogue’s global network. Initially reporting to the Editor in Chief of British Vogue and acting as a key strategic partner to the Global Editorial Director.
They will develop local strategies to drive editorial excellence, audience growth, and revenue, contribute ideas for local, regional, and global editorial projects, and bring regional expertise to global projects. The HEC is a senior and public-facing role, and the successful candidate will play a crucial part in representing the brand within the company and externally to the industry. In addition, they will bring extensive experience across all platforms, including digital, print, video, and social, as well as experience in leading and inspiring teams.
Key duties and responsibilities:
- Shape British Vogue’s creative and editorial direction in collaboration with the Global Editorial Director.
- Play the lead role in developing and refining British Vogue's editorial voice - growing and guiding the brand's success. Executing editorial strategies that deliver content through all channels aligns with our digital-first global ambitions and maintains editorial excellence.
- Lead content creation teams in the UK to drive brand performance and growth, working closely with other Heads of Editorial Content and the Global Editorial Director to oversee local print and digital content.
- Ability to think globally, act locally, and be culturally aware of optimizing content across Vogue and developing new and innovative ways of telling stories across multiple platforms, including digital, print, video, and social.
- A thought leader in designing and executing digital strategies. Develop and implement editorial direction and strategy across the site, social, and video (aligned with the overall global objectives) to grow the audience and drive revenue.
- Create and conceptualise content that speaks to a diverse and highly engaged audience.
- Understand the evolving global media landscape and ensure the brand is responding appropriately to meet changing consumer/advertiser needs.
- Continually contribute story, talent, and strategic ideas to the global network across print and digital editorial, video, consumer revenue, and events – the full spectrum of Vogue.
- Consult on e-commerce and other initiatives such as Vogue Club, Forces of Fashion, and anything membership related.
- Collaborate with Vogue Runway and Vogue Business Teams.
- Oversee the local print edition process, including the adaptation of global stories, ideation of local content, and lineup customisation and schedule management. Partner with operations to keep production and monthly closes on time and according to schedule.
- Achieve output while working closely with the regional and global operations teams to manage the local content and resource budgets.
- Create and uphold a supportive and collaborative team culture that clearly represents the Brand identity and values. Encourage collaboration and overcome creative challenges whilst simultaneously meeting business objectives.
- Lead, inspire, and directly manage the editorial team within the local market - scouting, hiring, developing, motivating, and uniting key talent.
- Act as the key contact for the British Vogue editorial team within the local operation, ensuring that content support teams are providing the best leadership.
- Work with commercial and commerce teams to identify and collaborate on revenue-generating opportunities that align with Vogue’s style and values.
- Act as an in-market brand ambassador, hosting events and liaising with commercial clients as required.
- Able to work collaboratively within our Global Matrix - creating strong partnerships to ensure that global & local goals are achieved.
Desired skills and qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in a senior editorial role, managing and editing teams of writers, editors/fashion editors, and creatives with a keen interest in developing talent and strong expertise in digital, video, and print media.
- Strong business acumen, excellent editing and proofreading skills, networking and interpersonal skills, and the ability to guide a team toward business goals.
- Demonstrated success in producing culturally relevant content for diverse communities.
- An entrepreneurial mindset, with a focus on new opportunities for stories and areas for audience growth.
- Proven history of delivering exceptional content in a multi-channel environment, with an innovative approach to using digital tools.
- Strong interpersonal communications skills and the ability to work effectively
