We are looking for a highly organised, motivated and experienced HCA. As HCA/GP Assistant, you will provide HCA duties and comprehensive administrative and customer care support to ensure the effective running of our surgery. You should have excellent administrative, organisational and communications skills. You should be an enthusiastic, efficient and responsive individual.
To work alongside the practice nurses, other HCAs and clinicians in the provision of patient care. Providing phlebotomy duties, blood pressure monitoring, dressing of minor wounds, assisting with minor surgery, new patient health checks, ECG’s and annual reviews for long-term conditions. Monitoring & maintaining adequate clinical stock levels.
- Urinalysis
- Blood Testing (must have phlebotomy qualification)
- Smoking cessation intervention
- Provide new patient health checks and record findings
- Health promotion to include sexual health education
- Measurement of blood pressure, temperature and pulse
- Peak flow measurements
- Inhaler technique assessment and guidance
- Nebulising asthmatic patients
- Recording of Spirometry
- Recording of ECGs
- Minor wound management
- Recognise changes in the patient’s observations which must be reported and acted upon
- Enable patients to access appropriate professionals in the practice team
- Provide relevant health promotion literature for patients
- To perform a variety of duties as directed by the GPs/Practice Manager
- Referrals, registrations and various other administrative tasks
- To assist with maintenance of records, in written or computerised format
- Cover Reception as required
- Deal promptly and appropriately with any queries received or concerns raised
- To ensure compliance and quality assurance is met in line with company procedures and CQC regulations
- To ensure that all associated information is recorded accurately and promptly
- To ensure emergency equipment boxes are monitored regularly and stocks replenished when used or expired
- Maintain clinical equipment efficiently
- Follow infection control standards and ensure these are maintained and assist in developing protocols
- Contribute new ideas to improve patient care
- Instruct patients in appropriate techniques or tasks
- Assist with audit and GMS contract data

The ideal candidate must have previous experience working within the NHS, General Practice and EMIS (or TPP SystmOne) experience. Any potential candidate must be organised, self-motivated, forward thinking and have excellent organisational, IT and customer service skills.

The practice opening hours are 8am to 6:30pm.
