JOB DESCRIPTION & PERSON SPECIFICATION
Job Title: Handyperson
Reporting to (Job Title): Head of Age UK Barrow & District
Salary: £21,900 FTE
Hours: Zero Hour Contract
We currently have an exciting opportunity to join the Age UK Barrow & District team and are looking to appoint an additional Handyperson to support our very popular and busy service.
Brief overview of the Position: To support our current Handyperson service during peak periods, sickness and holidays. You will be able to carry out small repairs and minor property maintenance in older people’s homes and gardens efficiently and to a high standard, to enhance wellbeing and quality of life by delivering an affordable home maintenance service to customers in the local community.
To observe and promote client’s choice, independence, dignity, privacy and fulfillment.
Main duties and Responsibilities
To complete jobs as requested by our older clients such as:
- fitting external key safes and grabrails
- fitting stair rails
- Assembling flat packed furniture
- dealing with trip hazards
- low level gutter clearing
- Painting
- Gardening
To carry out all other general DIY-type home maintenance tasks in older people’s homes. (installing shelves, curtain rails, minor repairs)
To provide, where applicable, an estimate of the value of materials and length of time required to complete the work and place the necessary orders.
To undertake any training as deemed necessary.
To observe Health & Safety regulations and be aware of risk assessments and utilise any safety equipment provided.
To carry out painting and decorating (both internal and external within H&S guidelines).
On completion of the work, complete all relevant paperwork and return to client and/or manager, including receipt and collection of payments (if applicable).
To wear appropriate work wear and carry ID at all times.
To notify the team Leader if the client requires other Age UK Barrow services.
Other duties as requested by the line manager.

Own transport and tools are essential. Mileage will be paid by the organisation at the usual rate.
