Due to reorganisation of the existing clinical leadership structure an exciting opportunity has arisen for a clinical lead hand therapist (either Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist) to join the well-established and dynamic multi-disciplinary Hand Team at Guys and St Thomas’ Hospital. We seek an individual who is enthusiastic, compassionate and forward thinking.
The Hand Therapy team consists of 32 hand therapists supported by four assistants and led by a Consultant Hand Therapist. We work extremely closely with the 7 Hand Surgery Consultants (plastics and orthopedics) and their teams and the nursing staff within the Hand unit which is co-lead by the Consultant Hand Therapist. Teaching, research and quality improvement opportunities are offered for all to work and develop as an integrated multi-disciplinary team.
Hand Therapy is part of the Therapies Directorate with a supportive and established professional structure. This includes a Chief and deputy chief AHP, Clinical Director of Therapies and Rehabilitation, Trust Head of OT and Head of Physiotherapy.
The Hand Therapy team provides trauma and elective care for our adult and paediatric local communities in Lambeth and Southwark and across the South East London sector as well as specialist services from further afield.
Hand Therapy Departmental objectives are founded upon the core principles of the clinical governance framework, trust core values and trust wide objectives. Research activity, robust evidence based practice and national guidelines drive forward our vision and direct service delivery with the key element being patient centered care.
At GSTT Hand Therapy we aim to be patient centred, research driven and clinically lead by highly experienced staff. Local, national and international Hand therapy activities will form part of your role as well as research and teaching. The post-holder will be expected to exercise a high degree of personal professional autonomy and integrity to make critical judgments to satisfy the expectations and demands of the role.

You will be based both at Guys and St Thomas’s Hospital and be responsible for helping to provide the clinical and professional leadership for Hand Therapy services. This position will require you to clinically lead, operationally manage, develop and support staff. The role deputises for the Consultant Hand Therapist as required, leads on various projects and initiatives across therapies and wider and linking in across the KHP partnership.
You will be supported to provide expert Hand Therapy input required in various forums and with new developments. It is essential you have excellent proven clinical, communication and people management skills as they will be key to success of the role.
