Glasgow Prestwick Airport (GPA) has an exciting opportunity for a Ground Handling Operative to join our team. This is a full time permanent position, 40 hours per week, Monday – Sunday on a rotational shift pattern.
Due to working time regulations and shift patterns, you must be 18 or over to apply for this vacancy. Due to shift times often being out-with public transport hours, own means of transportation is essential.

Job Scope:
To provide the day-to-day operation of Ground Handling ensuring at all times passengers and airlines are provided with a high standard of customer care and service.
Provide import and export handling services to the customers of Glasgow Prestwick Bond on a daily basis on a rotational shift pattern including night shift when required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure that a high level of customer service is provided to all passengers and airlines.
- To ensure Accident/Incident reporting procedures are followed.
- Remove baggage and freight from aircraft onto appropriate equipment and deliver to baggage reclaim belts or cargo warehouse as required.
- Operate the 'Triple A' (bingo card) reconciliation system as directed by DFT policy.
- Load baggage trailers and other equipment with baggage at the baggage sortation area.
- Tie down and secure baggage and freight on board the aircraft.
- Carry out a visual check of vehicles before if any found report to M.T through the online reporting system.
- Provide aircraft with all appropriate equipment and manpower.
- Ensure all vehicles are operated in a safe and compliant manner on the apron and other operational areas adhering to airside driving regulations.
- Provide services to Chevron/Ryanair hangars for movement of aircraft.
- Follow Airport Policy and Procedures including specific Airline policies.
- Ensure all vehicles are fuelled or put on charge for next day’s operations.
- Ensure read and sign are completed in a timely manner.
- Ensure fully compliant in all required Training (ASAT, GSAT, FSAT, D/G baggage reconciliation, level D).
- Remove nets and polythene from import pallets for breakdown.
- Work polythene bailer.
- Comply with employee responsibilities to Health & Safety regulations.
- Receive, unload, check and store import cargo from flight or truck.
- Ensure security of all cargoes within the care of GP Bond.
- Comply within the warehouse and adjacent ramp and roadside environment with safe and secure working practices.
- Comply with all customer procedures to guarantee flight safety.
- Provide a handling service to P.R.M passengers by the operation of Ambulift /Avi-ramp.
- Assist in other departments as and when operationally required.
- Provide passenger guidance.
- DDA compliant.
- Receive, unload, check and store export cargo for processing.
- Prepare airline pallet equipment for loading, ensuring polythene is used to protect freight from adverse weather.
- Remove nets and polythene from import pallets for breakdown in a safe manner, utilising pits if required.
- Comply with all customer procedures to guarantee flight safety.
- Provide de-icing on aprons and runways and taxiways.
- Ensure full compliance in levels 1-3 of equipment and procedures within ground handling.
- On load /offload of freight aircraft.
- Ensure parking stands are set up with appropriate equipment before aircraft arrive.
- Ensure turnaround procedures are adhered to at all times and safety is paramount.
- Operate weighbridges.
- Housekeeping - ensure rest area is kept clear and clean.
- Ensure Brushing and FOD boss of airside environment is completed and recorded.
Key Requirements, Skills, and Attributes:
- Aged 18+.
- Full Driving Licence.
- Ability to obtain a full Airside driving licence (Red Pass).*
- It’s not essential that you have previous experience as full training will be provided. However prior experience of working in a role where strict adherence to safety standards is a requirement would be advantageous.
- Flexibility is required in order to support unexpected events such as delayed flights.
- Good team player, as well as being able to work on own initiative.

- Where applicable, undertake a Counter Terrorist Check (CTC) and understand that deployment to any security related activities is conditional upon the satisfactory result of such a check.
*In accordance with regulations, this role requires you to meet DVLA Group 2 medical standards so that you can drive on our airfield (including on runways / taxiways). Therefore, please only apply for this role if you can meet the following standards:
- Vision - applicants must have a visual acuity (using corrective lenses if necessary) of at least 6/7.5 in the better eye and 6/60 in the other. Visual fields will be checked by confrontation method and if there is any doubt then an optician report is required.
- Colour perception - applicants are required to distinguish the colours red, green, and white using the Ishihara test plates (24) - 15 plates, presented in a random order, which must be identified without error or via an approved advanced colour vision test. The use of colour correcting lenses are not acceptable.
- Hearing - applicants must have the ability to hear a forced whisper in either ear at a distance of 2 metres. In case of doubt an audiometric examination will be necessary.
- General Health - applicants must disclose any medical condition, which might affect the ability to operate / drive safely. On disclosure of a medical condition which may affect the ability to operate / drive safely, reference is made to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) “Assessing-fitness-to-drive-a-guide-for-medical-professionals.”
