Graphic Designer Digital Learning & Development London, England

MI5
Full Time London, England 10.56 - 12.04 GBP Today
Job description

About Us

MI5, MI6 and GCHQ are the UK’s Intelligence Services. We work together to safeguard Britain’s people, interests and businesses from various threats at home, overseas and online, including cyber-attacks, espionage, terrorism, and organised crime. Working across our vital missions, you’ll deliver impact at the heart of national security, all within a supportive and inclusive environment that allows everyone to thrive.

The Role

Our vision is to deliver innovative, transformational learning that’s accessible everywhere, and meets the needs of our people and organisations. As part of the Digital Learning team, you’ll oversee the creation of graphics, illustrations, visualisations and animations that enhance our colleagues’ eLearning. This is the ideal role for a creative individual as you’ll use your knowledge of design principles and best practice to interpret briefs, adapt storyboards and create accessible, attractive content that helps others develop their skills. You’ll make the most of our technology and commercial partnerships, to deliver learning materials that are inclusive, always evolving and contribute to the growth of our community.

You’ll liaise with other members of the eLearning and Multimedia team as well as other Learning and Development (L&D) colleagues to deliver high-quality learning materials. Plus, you’ll work with customers to understand their learning requirements, demonstrating excellent customer service skills and the ability to build strong business relationships as you keep them informed throughout the delivery process. Taking ownership of the visual design of learning programmes, you’ll perform technical and design quality assurance and develop new, more efficient ways to achieve outstanding results. In doing so, you’ll create tools that enable our people to fulfil their potential – and encourage a culture of learning.

About You

You’ll have some learning and visual design experience, including one of the following: Adobe Suite, Adobe Captivate, Lectora and other eLearning authoring tools. Knowledge VyonD and Premier Pro is also beneficial. Importantly, you’ll be positive and motivated, and bring that attitude to our small team. With a keen interest in the topic, you’ll demonstrate a willingness to learn and adapt as you grow your skills in learning and development, and share your knowledge alongside friendly, supportive colleagues.

You’ll be dealing with a high turnover of work, so you’ll have a great eye for detail and know how to prioritise and manage your time effectively. Self-motivated and able to make independent decisions, you’ll bring a customer-focused approach to a range of briefs and develop learning materials for the benefit of our people.

Additionally, we’ll look for knowledge of Interaction Design principles and the implementation of interactive learning material. You’ll also have a good understanding of accessibility principles and their application in a digital learning environment, as well as knowledge of learning management systems, content management systems, and similar online platforms. As someone with a passion in this area, you’ll keep abreast of the latest learning trends and technologies.

Training and Development

This is an ideal role for a creative individual. You don’t need specific eLearning experience, as we’ll teach you this on-the-job and through a dedicated training plan, tailored to your needs. In our collaborative working environment, you’ll be encouraged to continuously develop your skills and knowledge – and even have the opportunity to formalise your training through Diplomas and TAP qualifications.

You’ll grow your technical and visual design abilities, learn from those around you, and explore your creativity as you support customers across our organisation. We’ll look to you to review the work of your colleagues, develop new approaches and ensure our learning content is the best it can be.

You’ll report to the Senior Designer/eDeveloper, who’ll mentor and monitor your progress. They’ll provide quality assurance, as well as advice on your personal development and your day-to-day responsibilities.

Rewards and Benefits

You’ll receive a starting salary of £32,050 (Cheltenham) or £34,414 (London) plus other benefits including:

  • 25 Days Annual Leave automatically rising to 30 days after 5 years' service, and an additional 10.5 days public and privilege holidays
  • Opportunities to be recognised through our employee performance scheme
  • Personal Learning Budget
  • Interest-free season ticket loan
  • Excellent pension scheme
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Facilities such as a gym, restaurant and on-site coffee bars (at some locations)
  • Paid parental and adoption leave.

Equal Opportunities

At MI5 diversity and inclusion are critical to our mission. To protect the UK, we need a truly diverse workforce that reflects the society we serve. This includes diversity in every sense of the word: those with different backgrounds, ages, ethnicities, gender identities, sexual orientations, ways of thinking and those with disabilities or neurodivergent conditions. We therefore welcome and encourage applications from everyone, including those from groups that are under-represented in our workforce such as women, those from an ethnic minority background, people with disabilities and those from low socio-economic backgrounds.

We’re Disability Confident

MI5 are proud to have achieved Leader status within the DWP’s Disability Confident scheme. This is aimed at encouraging employers to think differently about disability and take action to improve how they recruit, retain and develop disabled people. Being Disability Confident, we aim to offer a person-to-person interview to any candidate who self-identifies as disabled and meets the essential criteria for the role. This is our ‘Offer of Interview’ (OOI). To secure an interview for this vacancy, the essential criteria (in order of application process) are:

  • Eligibility questions – You will be asked a series of questions. If you meet the eligibility criteria, you will be directed to the initial application form.
  • Application form –You will be asked a series of questions relating to this vacancy and are required to meet the minimum pass mark set.
  • On successful completion of these stages, you will be invited to attend a virtual Interview.

What to Expect

Our recruitment process is fair, transparent, and based on merit. Here is a brief overview of each stage, in order:

  • The first thing we will ask you to do is complete our pre-screening questions to find out if you meet our initial criteria. If you do meet these criteria, we will then ask you to fill out a full application form where you will need to create a log-in and provide your full name, email address and a memorable password.
  • Our recruitment team will conduct a sift of your application. Successful applicants will be invited to an interview, where you will have the opportunity to demonstrate key behaviours relevant to the role.
  • If you are successful at this stage, we will then start the vetting process, which includes a Security Interview. This interview is an important part of the selection process. It’s an interview to explore your life and experiences, and it’s not a competency or capability-based interview.

Please note, you must successfully pass each stage of the process to progress to the next. Your application may take up to 12 months to process including vetting, so we advise you continue any current employment until you have received your final job offer.
