Job description
This is an outstanding opportunity to join one of the sector’s most high-performing marketing teams, helping to shape our overall internal and external approach to communications, as well as playing a significant role in the delivery of our bids.
Please submit your CV and portfolio (maximum file size 2MB) in your application. If your portfolio exceeds our file limit, please include a link to your portfolio using a file sharing technology or a website-hosted portfolio.
About the role
You will be sufficiently confident to work independently and hit the ground running, but will also on occasions collaborate with two highly experienced graphic designers within the team. We value original thinking and a creative touch, whilst adopting the protective role of custodian of the brand – superhero cloaks are optional.
This will be a dual role, working within the marketing department, whilst also providing support in bid submissions. Your keen eye for detail and the ability to work methodically under pressure to meet deadlines will see you thrive in this environment.
So, what will you be responsible for?
It’s fast-paced at Hydrock and sometimes it’s hard to predict what’s coming next, but key things are:
- Responding to design briefs, determining requirements and delivering compelling marketing content in a variety of digital formats
- Working closely with our in-house content writers to produce the final design
- Working equally closely with our bids team to deliver exemplar bid submissions against defined timescales
- Conceptualise visuals based on requirements
- Develop illustrations, logos, and other designs that are visually appealing
- Joining the rest of the super-heroes in becoming a custodian of the brand
You will be supported by our Senior Graphic Designer and the rest of our existing, centrally-based marketing team in the performance of your role.
What skills and attributes are we looking for?
We will want you to be a trusted and respected member of the team, and this means your core skills will include:
- Creativity – we embrace new ideas and constantly seek to elevate the quality of our communications
- Custodian of the brand – we believe that creativity and brand discipline needn’t be mutually exclusive and we have plenty of examples to prove it.
- Tenacity and curiosity – we love nothing more than providing a good brief, but sometimes you need to fill in the last few blanks with a touch of flair.
- Ability to communicate well and build trusted relationships, internally within the marketing team and across all levels of the business
- A keen eye for aesthetics and detail – can you spot a typo or wring typeface from across the room?
- Excellent time management skills – it’s fast paced here, so the ability to prioritise and keep projects moving will be key to succeeding in this role, but we’re a great team and we’ve got your back!
- IT skills – Competency in InDesign and PowerPoint is an absolute must, use of Illustrator, Photoshop, SharePoint and website CMS is also valuable. If you happen to have experience using e-marketing tools such as HubSpot, it would be another feather in your cap.
- Video editing skills would be fantastic to have (desirable, not essential).
- We expect you will typically have 2-3+ years of experience as a graphic designer, enough to hit the ground running. You may have a university degree, but we are guided more by your enthusiasm, experience and originality. We want your portfolio to knock our socks off.
Above all else, we want someone who will fit in with our team. Critically, we also want you to enjoy the role and to feel you’re contributing to the growth of our business UK-wide.
