You were born to provide brilliant animal care and we do that by empowering brilliant people like you. Join the IVC Evidensia Graduate Academy 2023 and find the very best start to your Veterinary career.
About us
Our practice has a very tight, supportive team, who all look out for each other. We do a lot of team building activities inside and outside of work time. We pay overtime if Vets/Nurses stay late and have admin time spaced through the day to allow plenty of time to think about results and discuss cases with colleagues. Within the team, we have Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Medicine, certificate holder in Small Animal Medicine, one Vet working towards a certificate in Surgery, one Nurse working towards her Surgical Nursing Certificate, one PCA with a Canine Behaviour certificate and one nurse working towards her Feline Behaviour certificate. We are a Nurse training practice, so have always had a training ethos.
We encourage case continuity but in a supportive environment, so there is always someone to ask/help you. We have a wide selection of bonded clients from very varied backgrounds, so follow a variety of backgrounds, so undertake a variety of work up protocols. We work with several charities also and are prominent within the community at school events, fairs, village shows etc. We are a VetsNow host practice, so can offer 24/7 care to all our inpatients, on site, without any of our Vets needing to work OOH.
We have a fully stocked on site lab, with heamatology, biochemistry, blood gas, quantitative pancreatitis measure, blood typing, POC coagulopathy, microscopy, digital radiographs and dental radiographs, a portable ultrasound scanner, endoscopes and rhinoscopes, ECG and multiparameter monitoring. We are able to perform basic orthopaedic operations inhouse (fracture repair, FHNE etc) and have three vets interested in further orthopaedic studies.
Our nurses are starting to explore laser physiotherapy to run wound clinics, and also take the lead on behaviour and geriatric clinics, as well as diabetic clinics.
About the role
Your normal hours of work are 40 hours per week, 4 days a week. Due to the particular needs of the business we need to operate a rota system, therefore there are no normal times of work applicable to you and your daily hours, start and finish times will vary from time to time on a rota system. The rota operates Monday to Friday inclusive. In addition, you may also be required to participate in a weekend rota.
Each graduate will have a named Mentor, how will have protected time put aside through the week for catch ups and coaching sessions. This will ensure each graduate has plenty of time for assistance and development. All other team members are well versed in support of graduate and trainee Nurses, so there is always someone around who can help, even if your mentor is not around at that moment. We initially start the graduates shadowing their mentor or another experienced vet, and then progress to 30 minute consults and slowly progress to 15 minute consults as the graduate develops. Our overall aspiration is that we can help the graduate develop into a confident, competent, compassionate Vet, with a lifelong love of their career.
