MACH is a friendly, approachable, driven and technically adept company. We are seeking Physic, Engineering or similar graduates to join our team in Bristol, developing designs for modern low carbon and energy efficient buildings. You will be taught a wide range of skills to develop such buildings.

We are seeking highly motivated Graduate Building Energy Optimisation Champions (aka. Building Physics Consultants). We are looking for candidates with a positive attituded towards developing their analytic, practical, and technical skills, such to design greener, more sustainable buildings.

You will play a crucial role at MACH and be part of a new rapidly expandinggroup, with a strong and developed training strategy for creating hybrid consultants. You will learn how to model the spread of sound around buildings, understand regulations relating to overheating, assess day lighting levels, undertake practical site work, and investigate code based solutions to design problem (should this be an area of interest). We have an approach of letting staff form their own job role, by supporting all our staff through their journey at MACH, with graduates regularly working with directors and the company owners on a daily basis.

MACH began as an independent acoustic consultancy firm with a clear goal to drive the energy use of building down. You might think this is challenging for a company who’s knowledge base is about sound and how it interacts with the buildings we use, so for further information please check out our TED talk at the following link;

Net Zero and low carbon energy design of buildings is a growing sector in the construction industry and we have an ever increasing number of clients recognising the unique approach we take in our design and consultancy, and we would love for you to be a part of it. We pride ourselves on being a young, friendly, passionate, and exceptionally diverse team that values a relaxed and informal work environment while maintaining a strong drive and commitment to low carbon design. We believe in supporting our employees and providing them with opportunities to progress in areas where they show passion and skill, always challenging and developing them with complex and exciting projects.

The Skills You Will Learn

The core role and skills we will teach you and develop will be;

  • 3D modelling for overheating
  • Daylighting and energy assessments
  • IES assessments and analysis
  • Energy-use calculations
  • Passivhaus Design
  • Advising on holistically integrated designs with the Acoustic Team

In addition to the above and part of creating a specialist hybrid engineering consultant, we will broaden your knowledge in acoustics. Therefore, some of the additional skills and knowledge you will learn are;

  • Planning and undertaking noise surveys on site.
  • 3D modelling and creating noise maps to determine the expected noise level on the façades of buildings.
  • Learning how the shape and orientation of the building can be used to reduce noise entering a building.
  • How building facades are constructed and the implications of different insulation types on acoustic performance.
  • Learn how to implement the unique acoustic mitigation solutions we have developed in-house to real life project. While integrating the knowledge and skills you have learned in the Energy Team.

The Skills You Have

To enable you to thrive in this exciting and challenging role you should be able to demonstrate that you have the following;

  • You have a degree in sustainability, environmental science, engineering, physics or a related field
  • You have excellent attention to detail and are highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously
  • You are a strong team player, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to build relationships with clients and colleagues
