Job description

The Centre for Criminology is looking to appoint a suitably qualified person to the position of Graduate Studies Administrator. The postholder will play a key role in leading the administration of the Centre’s programme of taught and research graduate degrees, including admissions, teaching, course information and examining. Criminology is a small and friendly teaching and research centre within the Faculty of Law. It is important to note that this is a role that requires onsite working during term time, although some flexibility for remote working may be possible, to be agreed with the Centre Director.
The postholder will work closely on a day-to-day basis with the Directors for Graduate Studies in Criminology, providing support and advice on operational and strategic matters. The postholder’s professional HR support will be provided by a member of the Faculty’s senior administrative team, giving an important connection to the wider student support team in the Faculty. The postholder will also work closely with the Criminology Centre Administrator, the Director and Assistant Director of the Centre for Criminology, and will support the students and other academic staff of the centre.
The successful candidate should have a proven ability to communicate effectively at all levels on the telephone, in writing and in person; and to deal appropriately with academic staff at all levels, with students and with a range of people external to the University (including enquiries from prospective students and funding bodies); excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a small team; capacity to understand and apply University and Centre policies and procedures accurately and effectively; familiarity with, and confidence using, relevant web-based software packages; strong IT skills; ability to work flexibly, prioritise effectively and produce accurate work to tight, and sometimes competing deadlines; educated to degree level or equivalent professional qualification.
The post is full time and permanent. The role will be based at the Centre for Criminology, Faculty of Law, St Cross Building, St Cross Road, Oxford, OX1 3UL.
