ABOUT THE ROLE

The Graduate Software Developer will be required to work as an integral part of the IT Development team. The candidate will help to develop and support of our internal applications, ERP and instore systems.

The Graduate Developer will need to be comfortable working in a busy, dynamic, fast-paced, flexible organisation and as such will need to thrive in such a situation. Within the development environment priorities will change rapidly and the developer will be required to change projects seamlessly without prior notice.

They will work with likeminded, confident, friendly and pro-active people.

Reporting to the Development Lead, the graduate software developer will be working in a fast moving and delivery focused environment. The candidate will receive training and gain experience working with some of our primary development technologies:

  • COBOL
  • Java, JavaScript, REACT
  • C++
  • Oracle SQL and PL/SQL
  • Google cloud platform
  • Apache Camel, Kafka

Your training will also include, but not be limited to:

  • Linux
  • Agile methodology
  • Version control
  • Testing
  • Soft skills (e.g. Communication)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, develop, test and deploy applications
  • Analysis of technical requirements and writing technical documentation
  • Solution analysis and design, creating task breakdown and planning.
  • Ensuring that all development adheres to defined coding standards/guidelines
  • Monitoring the application support queue, and responding to assigned support requests
  • Reporting progress to the Development Lead and/or mentor

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE NEEDED

Essential:

  • Graduate with a relevant Degree
  • Analytical and detailed approach to problem solving
  • Keen to learn new technologies
  • Self-motivated with ability to prioritise, organise and manage own workload with minimal supervision
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work well in a team environment

Preferable:

  • COBOL development experience
  • Java or React development experience
  • Realtime data streaming technologies
  • Basic SQL knowledge
  • Database design experience
