You will work as part of an established team reporting to the Research & Development Manager defining and driving leading edge technologies for future data storage technologies and products. About the role - you will:


Leveraging our high-tech clean room fabrication facility using the most advanced manufacturing processes and design tools you’ll be responsible for research and development in the areas of transducer design, thin-film wafer processing and integration of emerging technologies into new products to meet specific performance and reliability product roadmap requirements.


You will:


  • Design, fabricate, & characterise next generation magnetic (HAMR) recording heads.
  • Identify, develop & deploy new designs, materials & device test structures.
  • Develop process methods in area of photolithography, deposition, dry and wet etch techniques.
  • Perform Modelling and simulation of Magnetic and Optical Head Performance.
  • Develop wafer testing capability, novel toolkit structures & test methods for photonic devices.
  • Manage the acquisition, handling and vetting of data-sets to correlate experimental test results with device performance and reliability.
  • Project plan and collaborate with adjacent teams and internal customers


About you:


  • You are:

  • Familiar with semiconductor processing technologies and equipment, including photolithography, deposition, dry and wet etches techniques.
  • Knowledgeable in area of thin film modelling, characterization, test methods and techniques.
  • Familiar with opto-electronics, and integrated photonic devices.
  • Familiar with optical/electrical test methods and instrumentation required for building integrated photonic systems.
  • A good communicator with excellent presentation and written skills.
  • A strong team player who works effectively in a cross-functional team environment


Your experience includes:


  • In the final year of your relevant degree in an Engineering/Science related discipline and embarking on your first step into the world of engineering
  • Recently graduated within the last year of your degree in an Engineering/Science related discipline


You may also have:


  • Qualification in materials science, magnetics, chemistry, physics or engineering related disciple.
  • Academic research experience would be considered a distinct advantage
  • You may be in the final year or recently graduated within the last year of your Master’s or PhD degree
  • Strong analytical skills and proven problem solver, knowledge in 6 Sigma tools.
