Job summary

Explore the limits of technology and discover the unexpected

We create and maintain bespoke software products that help our customers protect national security – both at home and overseas.

From start to finish, you’ll be involved in the whole process, working with Operational Users, Customers, Project Managers and Development Engineers to identify risk and assure the user that the product does the job it’s required to do.
You’ll apply test best practice with a focus on quality throughout. That means identifying, designing and testing solutions which are often one-of-a-kind and designed to protect the UK and its people.

There are so many technology areas to choose from: Telecoms, Mobile Platforms, Enterprise Networks, Security Research, Bespoke Communications systems and many more. This role comes with a lot of responsibility, but we’ll make sure you’ll up to it. By giving you on-the-job training with dedicated time to innovate and research as part of your development. The most important thing you need is a willingness to learn.

Job description

Putting your skills to use

Using your skills and knowledge, you’ll:

  • Apply testing best practice.
  • Represent Test at all stages of the product lifecycle.
  • Implement test solutions across various platforms and against a varied catalogue of products and technologies.
  • Manage and maintain your testing using test management tools and test automation frameworks.
  • Report on test results and communicate issues and bugs to stakeholders.
  • Grow your testing skillset and software development knowledge through continuous learning and development.

Person specification

Technical skills

We need you to already be able to:

  • Work within a Software or Hardware Development Lifecycle.
  • Execute various test types and techniques, e.g. functional and non-functional, system testing and acceptance testing.
  • Have scripting skills, such as Python, PowerShell or Bash.

These are desirable – they’d strengthen your application:

  • Experience of Virtualisation and/or Cloud technologies.
  • Familiarity with networking technologies.
  • Adept at using Windows, Linux or mobile based operating systems, including use of the command line/terminal interfaces.
  • Experience using test automation technologies and frameworks.

Your Personal skills

  • You’re a critical thinker with an analytical mindset.
  • You’re all about good testing practices – and you improve them within your team.
  • You work well with others at all levels.
  • You’re always learning new skills.
  • You can plan your own workload and adapt to changing demands..

Benefits

What we offer

Now that we’ve explained a bit about what you’ll be doing, here’s what we can offer you:

  • 25 days’ annual leave, rising to 30 after 5 years’ service.
  • 8 Bank Holiday days off in addition to your annual leave.
  • 2½ additional days leave (set dates through the year).
  • 3 days paid leave a year to support a registered charity of your choice.
  • Paid overtime or Time Off in Lieu. Your salary is for your contracted hours. If you work more, and sometimes it’s needed, we believe you should be rewarded for that.
  • Training. Lots of training. This can be anything from a half day internal course to a distant learning degree. If it’s relevant to your career, we will aim to support you.
  • Pension. Our Pension scheme is Alpha. It’s generous and easy to set up.
