Job description

Binnies an RSK Group company is recruiting Graduate Flood and Coastal Consultants to join our industry-respected Flood, Coastal and Maritime team in Redhill. We work extensively for the Environment Agency, Natural Resources Wales, The Office of Public Works and local authority clients. We undertake feasibility studies to select optimum solutions; prepare business cases to unlock funding; design cost-efficient schemes using the latest digital technologies; provide construction supervision and administrative support; and advise on how to best manage and extend the life of our clients’ assets.

You should be driven to develop and improve your technical skills and motivated to gain professional qualification within a few years with a Professional Organisation such as the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management. You will contribute on a variety of projects for important Clients, including the Environment Agency, Local Authorities, Natural Resources Wales and Water Utility Companies.

About the Role:

  • Deliver packages of work within budget and work schedule to meet the Client’s requirements
  • Understand project scope and identify contractual change
  • Understand the customer’s basic and performance requirements
  • Undertake feasibility assessments, optioneering, outline and detailed design
  • Balance the workload of multiple projects
  • Provide clear and concise deliverables appropriate for the intended audience
  • Cooperate with the Design/ Engineering Manager, Project Manager and Regional Delivery Director

Essential Requirements:

The role is suitable for a Graduate in Environmental Science, Geography, Water & Environmental Management or another related discipline.

You should possess and be able to demonstrate the following qualifications, skills and knowledge:

  • Degree qualified in a Science, Geography, Environmental Science or related subject
  • Good grades at A-Levels in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) subjects and/or Geography
  • Motivated to work on flood and coastal risk management and water/ maritime projects
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work under time pressure and balance multiple priorities
  • Work honestly and openly in a team environment
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary high-performing team
  • Creative and practical thinking
  • The ability to design, plan and organise tasks
  • Proactive and methodical approach to problem solving as an individual and as part of a team
  • Excellent attention to detail, and focus on quality
  • A high level of computer literacy
  • Ability to travel as required to client offices and project sites

Desirable Requirements:

  • An awareness of relevant legislation, policy drivers and working practises in the Flood, Coastal and Maritime sector
  • Knowledge and ability to use AutoCad and/ or GIS
