Reporting to the Head of Process Engineering and Design you will be based in Milton Keynes and be part of the central Engineering and Performance Team providing specialist engineering, scientific and technical support to our operational teams across the Specialities Division. You will have the opportunity to apply your engineering skills in several different areas such as process plant and equipment, health and safety, and environmental compliance.

Safety is at the heart of everything we do, and you will have plenty of opportunity to develop your process safety skills. You will carry out inspections, undertake monitoring and take responsibility for design safety reviews and hazops. A key part of the role will be to ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental legislation.

Whilst constantly asking ‘why’, might be seen by some as a problem, we actually like it. A major part of this role will be working closely with site teams to investigate and troubleshoot plant and process problems in order to discover root causes. You will be taking our already good (if we do say so our selves) processes and utilising your technical knowledge and expertise to create even better ways of working.

We expect you to work towards chartered membership of a relevant professional body and will support you in this through a development programme.

Innovation plays a vital part in the way we operate, and this role is no different. You will be investigating and troubleshooting plant and process problems to ensure we are developing safe, innovative, and robust solutions to those problems.

Your key responsibilities

  • Guide, coach, and train site-based staff to optimise and enhance process equipment to provide efficiency improvements within the plant
  • Provide technical input to the preparation and modification of environmental permits and planning applications
  • Advise the SHEQ team on technical matters relating to health and safety issues
  • Manage specialist consultants to extract best value from their services
  • Share best practice and networking with colleagues throughout Specialities and the wider Renewi Group

  • 2:1 MEng degree in chemical engineering or similar i.e., process engineering, physics, applied physics, environmental sciences etc
  • Experience in utilising CAD software within a technical environment
  • Awareness of statutory requirements in terms of Health Safety and Environmental legislation as applied to waste management
  • Working knowledge of the principals of hazop
  • Knowledge of a range of waste processing technologies for the recovery of resources, products, and energy
  • Full UK Driving License
