Deal Tree Health Centre is a busy dispensing and training practice located in the semi-rural village of Doddinghurst, Brentwood. Our 9,700 patients are currently looked after by an established clinical team consisting of:
§ 4 Partners
§ 3 Salaried GP’s
§ 1 Paramedic Practitioner
§ 1 Clinical Pharmacist
§ 1 Nurse Practitioner
§ 4 Practice Nurses
§ 2 HCA’s
§ 1 Phlebotomist
We are looking for an enthusiastic qualified Dispenser to lead our friendly and busy team of 4 Dispensers. This is a part-time role for 25 hours per week – Monday: 8.30am-6.00pm, Tuesday: 9.00am-6.30pm and Thursday: 8.30am-5.30pm. However, in extenuating circumstances you may be asked to work additional hours.
The main responsibilities of the role will include:
Lead/Management
§ Monitor and agree annual leave requests prior to staff requesting via BrightHR
§ Monitor sickness absence and report to Practice Manager
§ Ensure all training and review of Standard Operating Procedures is up-to-date
Dispensing
§ To accurately and efficiently process all relevant prescriptions as authorised by GP’s and prescribing nurses where appropriate in accordance with the principles of good practice
§ Dispensing acute prescriptions
§ Not to dispense medicines to unauthorised persons without the Doctors’ consent
§ Dispensing repeat prescription requests received
§ To ensure that all medicines and appliances dispensed are checked against the prescription and whenever there is doubt about the appropriateness of the item, or about the dose or labelling instructions to check with the authorising doctor or duty doctor
§ Updating patients’ repeat screens on Doctors’ instructions
§ Dispensing Private prescriptions
§ Dispensing ‘black listed’ prescriptions, pricing and recording them
§ Checking colleagues’ dispensing where necessary
§ Ensuring the Dispensary area remains clean and tidy
§ Maintaining complete and accurate records for Controlled Drugs
Prescriptions
§ Handing out prescriptions and collecting charges when appropriate
§ Sorting, stamping and endorsing prescriptions
§ Completing backs of prescriptions
§ Generating prescriptions
Stock Control
§ Ordering appropriate quantities of goods via the Wholesaler’s computer link
§ Checking goods as and when they are delivered and recording generic details
§ Returning incorrect goods to the Wholesalers
§ Stocking shelves, refrigerators and other storage areas using rotation method
§ To operate efficient stock control appropriate to the needs of the Practice with the objective of ensuring continuity of supply for patients and minimising wastage through out of date stock.
§ To ensure that drugs are stored in an appropriate manner in accordance with the accompanying instructions
§ Removing ‘out of date’ stock from the shelves, refrigerators and other storage areas
§ Disposal of returned unused medicine
This is an evolving role and is subject to change.
The ideal candidate will need to have:
§ At least an NVQ Level 3 Technician or equivalent Pharmacy Services qualification
§ At least 2 years Dispensary and Pharmacy experience
§ Excellent clinical and medication knowledge
§ Understanding and experience of working as a dispenser in GP practice setting is desirable although not essential
§ The commitment to continue to learn new clinical skills and develop your career
§ The confidence to work as part of a busy GP multi-disciplinary Practice team and using your own initiative in decision making
§ The ability to be adaptable and flexible in your approach
§ Excellent patient facing inter-personal communication skills
Previous general practice experience and knowledge of SystmOne is desirable but not essential
Salary dependent on experience.
