What is Patient Safety & Pharmacovigilance?
All GSK medicines undergo rigorous testing for safety/effectiveness through clinical trials before reaching the market. However, clinical trials study medicines in a relatively small number of specific individuals, over a short time-period. Some undesirable/unexpected side effects only emerge once medicines are used by a more diverse population and/or over a longer time-period. Within Clinical Safety & Pharmacovigilance (aka Global Safety), our role is to ensure that the desired effects (or 'benefits') of our medicines outweigh undesired effects (or 'risks') – named ‘benefit-risk assessment’ – during clinical trials and post-marketing. The process and science of monitoring the safety of medicines and taking action to reduce risks whilst increasing benefits of medicines, is what we do.
This is an office-based opportunity to gain a broad understanding of the activities that we use to fulfil our purpose and grasp how we fit into the wider pharmaceutical industry. Our team cover a range of products from HIV and Neurology to Anti-Infective and Respiratory treatments. You will learn from industry experts on how we collect, analyse and act on information to learn about, and communicate, the safety profile of our products to doctors and patients across the globe.
This is a chance to gain technical and business skills, whilst exploring your interest in Safety and building a strong network at a leading pharmaceutical company. If you are excited by the prospect of gaining experience in a role that is close to, and makes a significant impact on, patient’s lives, then look no further.
