The successful candidate will be a key part of the Customer Service Center team in the Department of Planning and Zoning. The Department is focused on providing high quality customer service and offers unique opportunities to gain diverse, entry-level experience in the planning and zoning profession within a large and expanding multifaceted community that is leading growth in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
As a member of the Customer Service Center team, you will work closely with the public, applicants, and staff from a variety of County departments. Your primary responsibility will be responding to customer inquiries about planning and zoning and development review processes. This will involve regular, daily contact with internal and external customers, including walk-ins, phone calls, and email inquiries. The successful candidate will research and answer basic land use and zoning related questions and refer customers to appropriate personnel to address more complex or project-specific inquiries. Other duties include receiving and logging planning and zoning application submissions, distributing incoming Department mail, preparing zoning correspondence, setting up new applications and entering data into the County's land management information system, and processing cash transmittals to the Treasurer's Office.
Job Requirements
High School diploma and two (2) years of related work experience in a government setting; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
The successful candidate must be customer service focused and exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, and the ability to meet deadlines and maintain product quality while managing multiple tasks. Knowledge of planning, zoning, and land use in Virginia is desirable.
