Local Unit & Position Description:
Our specialist Jack-Up and Geotechnical team is part of the wider Offshore Engineering and Consulting department here at DNV. The work we do is at the forefront of implementing the green energy transition around the world today, with a focus on the installation and operation of jack-up vessels. Our team provide sophisticated solutions and engineering assessments to support offshore renewable energy installation projects around the globe, as well as ensuring safe offshore operations for our oil and gas customers. The team is based in the London office and is the global technical hub for this service line.

Supporting with the delivery of our customer projects, you’ll be given real responsibility to manage and deliver global projects, whilst you continue to develop your skills, knowledge and understanding of the Energy industry.
Our Opportunity:
Our Jack up and Geotechnical engineering team, are a diverse group of Geotechnical, structural and mechanical engineers, specializing in installation and operation of jack-up vessels that are currently used to install wind turbines and perform oil and gas activities, offshore.
Our projects can be located almost anywhere around the world from Norway to New Zealand, providing genuine variety to the range of challenges you will encounter. Whilst our projects are global, this position is based at our London office (near Waterloo/Blackfriars stations), from where you will collaborate closely with geotechnical colleagues across our organisation.
As a Geotechnical Engineer, you will be responsible for the delivery of technical work and managing a variety of exciting offshore projects. Your role will be to understand and analyse these, following the relevant international standards and/or latest research, reviewing and interpreting geotechnical data to produce ground models and design soil profiles of the seabed, identifying any related risks. You’ll also perform foundation analyses to determine the appropriate foundation capacities and stiffnesses that would be used in the assessments of the structure.
In addition, you will also be engaged with performing other types of calculations for issues such foundation interactions with uneven seabeds, cyclic soil behaviour, liquefaction, scour, or the forces required to extract the legs from the seabed. For these calculations we often also use 2D and 3D finite element analyses.

You will be given opportunity to:
- Work as technical lead on projects to accomplish the overall delivery of optimum solutions to clients
- Review and interpretation of seabed and site investigation data.
- Successful delivery of geotechnical analyses of offshore foundations in accordance with international codes and standards.
- Deliver high-quality technical reports detailing assessment approach and key findings and outcomes.
- Identify geotechnical hazards and risks, and propose means of mitigation/potential solutions.
- Develop innovative solutions to geotechnical issues and enhance existing ways of working.
- Manage your own projects and to work with a high degree of independence, supported by mentors and other senior engineers.
- Develop your commercial and project management skills by gaining direct exposure to clients and involvement throughout the project lifecycle and supporting the preparation of tenders and technical proposals.
- Develop your technical skills alongside our world-leading experts, on a variety of high-profile global engineering projects, on behalf of some of the industry’s leading organisations.

- A degree in a relevant engineering discipline (e.g. Civil, Geotechnical) along with a post-graduate degree in a specific geotechnical discipline
- Demonstrable experience in engineering consultancy, with a track record of successful delivery of geotechnical analysis, ideally in offshore wind, or oil and gas projects.
