Amberside Energy is an exciting renewables development and management company headquartered in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire. We are a dynamic firm that primarily works with solar farms and battery-based energy storage systems but with growth plans that will allow us to move into other technologies and sectors.
We are seeking a GIS Specialist to support our growing team. The ideal candidate will be proactive and positive, with excellent organisational and communication skills and the ability to use their initiative.

Duties of the Role
- Research, critique and source or create datasets relevant to solar and energy storage site finding and development
- Create and maintain a suitable storage area of up-to-date data
- Run site finding processes, using various inputs to help produce required deliverables
- Manage the online GIS platform which provides data access to the company
- Create formal drawings illustrating various datasets to support the development of projects
- Work to continually improve the processes by increasing automation and scope of outputs
- Continual research into the software/ArcGIS suite of software to explore ways its functionality can increase the capability of the company

Required Candidate Characteristics
- Have 2+ years’ business experience within GIS/ energy/ environmental/ geography or an equivalent degree
- Competency with ArcGIS Pro and Online – covering the sourcing, effective storage, manipulation and display of a variety of datasets
- An eagerness to learn more about the software and develop new ways of doing things which can in turn drive forward company practices
- Ability to manage own time and prioritise (and reprioritise) tasks in a dynamic work environment
- Good communication and presentation skills
- Ability to apply knowledge of datasets and processes to solve problems
- Ability to work full time in the UK and be present in our offices in Hemel Hempstead
- Are genuinely keen to develop a career within GIS and Renewable Energy.
Desirable Candidate Characteristics
- Knowledge of solar farms/energy storage systems, how they work and the factors which contribute to finding and running a good site
- Knowledge of the electrical grid network and the infrastructure that comprises it
- Knowledge of Python and its use in expanding the automation and capability of GIS processes
- Knowledge of FME and QGIS software packages
- Competency in other scripting/ programming languages and modelling functions of Excel
- Competency in complementary design software such as CAD, PVCase, PVSyst, etc.

Candidates invited for an interview should expect the following:
- Panel interview (MS Teams) - approximately 1 hour interview on CV content
- Assessment interview (in person) - approximately 2-2.5 hours on-site which will include an interview and short test covering literacy, numeracy, and ability to summarise information (this can be organised in the evening to fit in with other commitments).

Salary: £25,000.00-£30,000.00 per year
