Job description
Job Purpose
Reporting to the Marine Manager, the General Port & Marine Operative will assist with all general Port and Marine activity. Primarily this will include the safe mooring of vessels, Marine Operative Leave cover including lock operations and will also undertake general Port facilities management and housekeeping tasks.
Principal Accountabilities
· All work to be carried out in compliance with both ABP Health and Safety Policies and other published Safe Systems of Work. Unsafe practices to be reported to line manager and supervisors immediately.
· Responsible for own health and safety, as well as that of other staff members.
· To work in accordance with a planned roster system to ensure mooring and marine cover is in as required (24 hours per day). On occasion must be available to work tidal shift pattern consisting of 6hours on 6 hours off.
· Assist with safe mooring and unmooring of vessels.
· Liaison with port users.
· Liaise and communicate effectively with other ABP Staff members.
· Be familiar with ABP computer systems such as iPort and email.
· Complete online training modules as required.
· After suitable training operate machinery and plant in accordance with safe systems of work to assist with general cleanliness of estate and cleaning of vessels holds.
· Activate port emergency procedures and respond appropriately to any unforeseen emergencies/incidents that may arise within the port, passing on information to relevant parties.
· When Deputising for the Marine Operative at Marine control,
· Maintain a safe and effective Marine Control at the Port of Garston VHF Communications and passing relevant information to vessels.
· Monitoring and recording of all arrivals and sailings and other relevant information for onward use by administration/billing.
Competencies, Skills, Experiences & Qualifications
Essential
· Ability to deliver the ethos of exceptional customer service and always seeking to improve quality and service for both internal/ external stakeholders.
· ABP Safety Critical Medical Standards.
· RYA/STCW VHF Operator Certificate.
· HSE First Aid Training.
· Familiarity with common IT software packages.
Ideal
· Experience mooring/unmooring vessels.
· MCA Oil Spill Level 2P Training.
· IOSHH Working Safely or CHIP training.
· Familiarity with marine data sets
