Our Health Partnership - South Birmingham Alliance Primary Care Network are seeking a General Practice Assistant. Full or part time will be considered.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic multidisciplinary team including Pharmacists, Nurses, Doctors, Health Care Assistants, Physician Associates, Social Prescribers and Physiotherapist to name a few.
You may be required to work across several practices in the Primary Care Network (PCN) as part of your role, the PCN practices are based in the areas of B30, B31, B38 & B45.

Main duties of the job
A General Practice Assistant (GPA) will support the GP(s) smooth running of clinics by performing the more routine administration and clinical tasks on behalf of the GP, therefore freeing up their time to focus on the patient.

We are currently a GP partnership of 34 practices with 43 surgeries. 176 GP partners and circa 80 salaried GPs in Our Health Partnership serving around 300,000 patients in Birmingham, Sutton Coldfield, Wolverhampton, Solihull and Shropshire.

Job responsibilities
Primary Duties and Areas of Responsibility
- Sorting all clinical post and prioritising for the GP in terms of actions. Signposting some post to others such as clinical pharmacist etc.
- Extracting all information from clinical letters that needs coding and adding to notes. Supporting with QOF reviews.
- Arranging appointments, referrals, tests and follow up appointments of patients
- Preparing patients prior to going in to see the GP, taking a brief history and basic readings in readiness for the GP appointment.
- Dipping urine, taking blood pressure, ECGs & phlebotomy.
- Completing basic (non-opinion) forms and core elements of some forms for the GP to approve and sign such as insurance forms, mortgage, benefits agency forms etc
- Explaining treatment procedures to patients
- Helping the GP liaise with outside agencies e.g. getting an on call doctor on the phone to ask advice or arrange admission while the GP can continue with their consultation(s)
- Support the GP with immunisations/wound care
- Support with implementation of personalised care support plans
Person Specification
Experience
Essential
- Ability to work effectively as a team player and under appropriate supervision, and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English, adequate to enable the post holder to carry out the role effectively
- Ability to work on your own initiative
- Time-management skills and the ability to prioritise
- Ability to communicate with members of the public including a diverse population varying in age, cultural backgrounds and economic status.
Desirable
- Previous experience of working within a health or care setting
- Completion of an HCA development programme
Qualifications
Essential
- GCSE grade C or new grade 4 or above in English Language and Mathematics. GCSE equivalents e.g. key skills level 2 or functional skills maths and Englishlevel 2 are currently accepted.
