LEAD TUTOR Discoveries Home-Ed Group, part of the Apple Tree Co-operative Bristol, is looking for a new Lead Tutor. Based in a lovely community-run venue in Eastville, we currently have 13 children aged 9 to 11 receiving a Steiner Waldorf inspired curriculum. Have a look at our website and facebook page. The weekly rhythm is designed by the tutor in collaboration with parents to draw on the unique strengths of each tutor, the needs of the children, and the specialisms within the parent body and wider community, which will change over time. 15-18 hrs per week, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays over 33 weeks a year We pay £31 per hour of contact teaching hours on a self-employed basis In addition to the main tutor, the team currently includes a tutor assistant and separate handwork & bushcraft tutors This is a wonderful opportunity to work autonomously with the children and families, bringing the essence of Steiner/Waldorf education in collaboration with a committed and supportive group of parent home educators. Our approach is to focus on the child’s all- round development: social, emotional, artistic, as well as core academic content. As a wider cooperative, we arrange a wholesome calendar of festivals and events and promote the social aspects of being part of a passionate, holistic, and independent parent-tutor co-op. We are looking for an enthusiastic, proactive and committed individual who will, with warmth and confidence, lead our children in their learning and growth. The lead tutor’s main responsibility is to design and deliver a balanced curriculum that enables all the children to progress in a manner, and at a pace suitable to their age and development. We are ideally looking for applications from trained and qualified Steiner tutors, but will consider mainstream trained teachers with relevant experience who are in the process of or keen to complete Steiner education training. It is desirable that the tutor should possess a good knowledge of the class 4/5 Steiner Waldorf curriculum. We look forward to welcoming you to our wonderful, dynamic community! Rolling recruitment until the right candidate is found, please forward your CV asap. *Essential* *Knowledge* Knowledge of child development and the curriculum relevant to Steiner class 4-5 *Quals and Experience* * Experience of working with and leading groups * Experience of working with children aged 9-11 years * Experience of independently planning/designing classroom activities * Skills and expertise necessary to deliver a balanced curriculum at a pace suitable Steiner class 4-5 (mainstream 5-6) *Skills and Attributes* * Ability to relate to and inspire children, and be compassionate and empathetic to their needs and abilities * Self starter; able to proactively take initiative, be self motivating, and take responsibility * Organisational skills necessary to plan and teach effectively in an independent setting * Willingness to work collaboratively and * cooperatively with others such as tutors, assistants, families, and the wider community * Adaptable - able to flex approach to suit the needs of the group, for example in taking account of differentiation, variation from ‘standard’ national curriculum expectations, and incorporating family’s interests, skills, and priorities *Desirable* *Knowledge* Deep understanding of Steiner Waldorf education and its curriculum *Quals and Experience* * Approved Steiner Waldorf Teaching Qualification and relevant experience * Experience of delivering learning and/or teaching experience in a Steiner setting * Experience of delivering teaching for this age group of children * Experience working with mixed age classes, including designing and delivering differentiated curriculum to meet the needs of all children *Skills and Attributes* * Ability to work flexibly, with a positive attitude, and to be resilient to the varying demands of the role * Skills to present artistically and creatively * Open minded * Inventive, imaginative, creative approach to finding the right approach to meet the class’s needs
