Job description
Post title: General Farm Worker

Status: Permanent, 48 hours per week, 11 days on and 3 days off

Salary: £28,543 - £31,213 (A33 – A36) per annum

Reaseheath College is looking to recruit a highly motivated General Farm Worker to join our farm team. Answerable to the Dairy herd manager, the successful applicant will be involved in all aspects of the farms operation with specific focus on Calf rearing, Youngstock, beef animal rearing and some tractor work.

We are a mixed farm consisting of Dairy, Sheep and 600-acre Arable departments.
Our main role is to act as a teaching resource for the Agriculture department and the wider college.
The Dairy herd currently consists of 200 Pedigree Holstein cows with a herd average of 10,484l
Half of the herd is milked using our GEA rapid exit parlour whilst the other half are housed on a newly constructed (2021) barn containing 2 Lely A5 astronauts and Collector.

The Dairy Team is responsible for demonstrating the very highest levels of best practice throughout the unit from dairy hygiene and animal welfare to communication and student Development.
The successful candidate would work closely with the other members of the dairy team and must be willing to take on responsibilities to allow the unit manager to work on expansion projects and wider college projects.

As a team member you will be responsible for the ensuring that the unit delivers the learner experience that is required by the Agricultural Curriculum department whilst ensuring the farm operates to the very highest standards as a commercial unit. As such some instructing of students in farm tasks will be required.

The Dairy Team is also responsible for growing and maintaining the brand of Reaseheath both as a college and a farming business, engaging with industry and returning new industry thinking to the college.

This is an exciting and engaging Role. The successful candidate will not only be able to operate at the top of UK dairy production but have the ability to directly influence the next generation entering the sector.

Please note this role constitutes ‘regulated activity’ as defined by the Protection of Freedom Act 2012. The successful candidate will therefore be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check with barred list information prior to starting employment. You must have the right to work in the UK and will be required to provide evidence to support this.
